Mojo hosted site The Dig Museum is actually up and running after months (years? years and years?) of ridiculous teaser content and other stuff like that.

Though most of the site is still "coming soon" they have a nice history writeup which was in part written by Bill Tiller, and some downloads.

Anyway, check it out. Been a while since we had a new hosted site!

Hey, guess what? It?s totally the first of December! I don?t care if the fascist Mojo date system doesn?t acknowledge this fact ? it?s past midnight here and that?s all that matters.

Er, anyway. Plunder 3D has been updated with some very sexy looking new screenshots, including our first glimpse at the theatre and the chickens. And there?s also a small update on Goblin?s other site, Blood Island 3D; we get to see the crypt coffin and it?s looking just dandy.

Go have yourself a gander, y?all.

If you thought that J?rn and Vogel were impressive then get a load of this: a hardcore gaming granny who plays Psychonauts (and just about every other game ever)! Check out her blog, this video showing her controlling Razputin in hospital and this video introducing her 1337 skills. It?s impressive (and hilarious) stuff.

But if you just can?t get enough of J?rn and Vogel then JBRAA has been awesome and uploaded some more uber adventure gaming frenzies onto Mojo Art. Go check them out here and watch in awed amazement. In fact, whilst we?re on the subject check out Pure Pwnage too. It doesn?t have anything to do with LucasArts, but it is damn funny.

To all hardcore gamers out there: Mojo salutes you.

And on an unrelated but no less significant note, MJ has update Nightlight Productions with part three of his side-splitting Star Wars radio parody. Go give it a listen!

A few news updates today:

As previously reported, Plunder 3d appeared in December's PC Zone. The Tingler has helpfully scanned in the article. See this forum thread for more.

Defying critics, expectations and Duke Nukem Forever comparisions, the new ScummVM Website has finally appeared. Go have a look.

A new version of the self-explanatory tool Psychonauts Explorer has been released. New in this version is partial support for the PS2 version, a new search tool and a bunch of bugfixes and enhancements. More details are available here.

Arrrrgh my hearties, Avast!! (What's that? Wrong day? Oh okay then...)

Ahem. Lots has been going on in the Mojo community whilst I've had my back turned tending my Daffodils, and to celebrate here's some kind of funky catch-up news post (tm).

  • Nightlight Productions (see interview) have released part two of their epic radio saga, Lost Cause II: There's Still No Hope. Download it for free here, and expect part three to come soon.

  • The illustrious bgbennyboy and his army of tiny tinker children have constructed a device by which we can all rip the music from Bone to listen on our portable cassette players. Furthermore we can also "dump" the game files, whatever that means. Download some of the good stuff here.

  • And lastly the Plunder 3D web-site has been updated with more two dimensional images of the three dimensional UT 2004 mod for you to lust over. We can now see what the exterior of the fort looks like (very nice) as well as the interior of the Barbers shop (ditto).

  • You know what makes Mojo so God damn great!? Our glorious little hosted site children! Look at them there... they sing, they dance. They act and they cook. They?re our cute little baby children that we had together but it?s our little secret and don?t you dare tell anyone else about them or I?ll poke your little beady eyes out.

With that in mind I interviewed Mathew Smith about his web-site, Uncle Matt?s dead fish emporiam, otherwise known as Nightlight Productions. Don?t know what that is? For shame! Read the interview to top up your brain knowledge and then whip yourself mercilessly with a copy of the Bible.

Oh, and Indy Month is still charging forward full steam ahead. It?s just that it?s, well, a very long month. I think it ends in February and the reason for that is because Harison Ford is a very old man and so takes longer to complete his orbit around the sun. But two more spine-tingling articles will be coming eventually, I promise. That?s our little promise there and don?t you dare tell anyone about it.

Oh yeah, stuff is probably coming soon. Besides, it?s Autumn now. Stuff always comes in Autumn.

But in the mean-time: Kaz-zow! It?s some sort of wacky Unreal Tournament 2004 Plunder Island moddy thing! Don?t get too excited, though; you can?t actually play the dam thing yet. But you can look at the screenshots. And they?re very pretty. And Goblin is the team leader dude and he?s also the guy behind Blood Island 3D so you can be sure that the project is in safe hands. Keep your eyes peeled on plunder3d.net for more loveable shenanigans over the next few months!

    I love snickers

A long time ago in a galaxy basically around the corner in the grand scheme of things... It is a time of new content for the rebel forces over at Nightlight Productions as the first part of Lost Cause II: there?s still no hope goes online! The series is a ten part saga of short radio plays that you can download for free. They?re funny, action packed and do a great job of parodying the Star Wars universe... so listen to part one now! And you can grab all of the original series of Lost Cause here.

And if you remember Nightlight Productions did a series of radio plays set in Tierra De Los Muertos - the land of the dead - based around the same inspiration source as Grim Fandango. Well if you?re hungry for more content from that world then you can read a Manny-like blog address, which will be updated very frequently.

Keep visiting Nightlight Productions for more LucasArts Internet radio play related fun over the next few weeks!

One hosted site we haven't done a good enough job pimping is The Blood Island Project, Goblin's rather impressive site dedicated to the classic Curse of Monkey Island location.

Not only is the site filled with some stunning 3d images, you also get 2d art and some of the more impressive fan music I've heard in a while.

In other words, go check out the all new Blood Island now - it's pretty cool.

In a rather unexpected turn of events music-snob site Pitchfork has published an article about game music. There are a lot of interesting points, many coming from Peter McConnell of Grim Fandango and Psychonauts fame (among others).
"My experience with the iMuse system is we thought we'd invented this wonderful thing, and we rolled it out, and nobody really noticed," laughs McConnell. "The main point of adaptive audio is that you shouldn't know it's there anyway."

There's a lot more good stuff over at Pitchfork.

Want to hook up with some talented artists? Well, if you're in the Berkley area, you have the chance to meet Double Fine's Scott Campbell, Raz, and Nathan Stapley as well as Telltale's Graham Annable at Comic Relief.

This is, possibly not surprisingly, a Stickleback-Hickee signing, and it will take place from 7-9pm tonight at 2026 Shattuck Ave. in Berkley. Tim Schafer also promises snacks and beverages, so how can you go wrong?

Should you happen to be in the London area on Sunday (May 8th) at 2pm you might want to stop by The Volunteer pub at 247 Baker street. Not only do you get the chance to meet our very own Gabez (which might be reason enough in itself!), but Ron Gilbert will be there to indulge every Monkey Island fan's dream. Yes, you can meet up with the man behind the series, and chat him up about it (and other things) too.

There will probablyalso be a meet-up in Amsterdam, but that date is currently not set. Check Grumpy Gamer for up-to-date updates about that tour stop. It has now been confirmed for 3pm tomorrow.

Update: The Amsterdam leg of Ron's trip across the globe has come and gone, and it left behind a photo.<:MORENEWS:> Ron himself isn't pictured, but you can spot Marek Bronstring from Adventure Gamers on the far left, #monkey-island's own CaliMonk 6th from the left, and Paco Vink 7th from left. Remi claims he's spotted WorldofMI's Junaid in the photo as well, but we have no confirmation, so for now it is assumed that Remi is lying.*

Hopefully we'll be getting a photo from the London stop, totally exposing Gabez.

*Junaid is there, and Remi wasn't lying. Further reports also reveal that there was a strange naked man swinging about on ropes in the background throughout the gathering. Hired by Gilbert, or just Amsterdam living up to its reputation? We don't know, but there is a picture of him on Grumpy Gamer.

Ok, so probably not, but tonight is the night of the Secret of Monkey Island play at Hammond High School in the Baltimore, MD area. The Baltimore Sun has a nice little write-up of it, including some of the history of getting permission to set the play up and what not.

The show will be on at 6:30 tonight and tickets are $5, so make sure to check it out if you live close by.

New super-hip fansite Razputin.net has gone and got itself a complete new design (after only being up for a month or something!). It is sporting a fancy new brown look, and some new features to boot, like a better screenshot gallery, and a little sentence bar at the top that doles out tips for you to consider. Also, if you hate the new design, a "Razputin.net 1.0" skin will soon be made available so you can switch back. Check it out.

If you are a fan of The Dig you probably know that a novel version penned by Alan Dean Foster was released some time around the same time as the game. Hosted site The Dig Museum is conducting an interview with the author, and needs you to submit questions. The deadline is apparently today has been extended to Thursday, so if you have anything to ask, you should probably jump at it now.

What's this, a new hosted site? Thrik of Grim Fandango Network fame has finally launched his sought after Razputin's Domain, a site covering everything related to Double Fine's Psychonauts. So really, stop reading this, and head on over to Razputin's Domain right now.

In related news, Dig @ Mixnmojo is almost ready to be relaunced as the Dig Museum. Currently there's little more than an audio drama there, but we expect that to change shortly. Check out The Dig Museum now.

The folks over at Adventure Developers have published two parts of an article titled "The Cold Hotspot: A critique of the state of adventure games," with a third part to come soon. It's a long but interesting read, and part one and two can be found here and here, respectively. Here's a quote:<:MORENEWS:>
"The adventure game is not sacred or written in stone and needs to own up to it! There, I said it. Sue me, but you'll be doing so more out of spiteful denial than charges of defamation. The truth is, the adventure game genre, as we all know it, has long been suffering from obscurity, lack of progress, sheer banality, isolation (surprise!), and, simply, from the garden variety of dullness."
Harsh words indeed, but you've got to admit, they've got a point.

Like I said last summer, adventure games have to evolve... or die.

Six months after saying that a new version would be released 'sometime in the next month' ScummVM Quick And Easy 1.4.0 is out.

The new version introduces many new features including: game filters - to display only games of a particular type, a frontend for the extra scummvm tools - so you can compress various datafiles without having to use the command line, and options galore - so you can tweak and change the program to suit your own preferences.

The full list of changes is huge so its best to read this thread for an explanation of the most important ones.

How do you know you've been at this too long? When sites in your network that actually bother to keep track of their age announce that today is their seventh birthday!

On that note, happy seventh birthday to World of Monkey Island! To celebrate this huge amount of years being online and active, they've posted five new pages to Paco Vink's Monkey Island 1 comic. Go check it out and wish them well at World of MI!

The excellent music site LucasArts Soundtracks has been ordered by LucasArts to take down all content relating to Star Wars and Indiana Jones.

Specifically, the soundtracks now removed were from:

  • Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
  • Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine
  • Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
  • Star Wars: Force Commander
  • Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
  • Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II - Rogue Leader
  • Star Wars: Rogue Squadron III - Rebel Strike
  • Star Wars: Dark Forces

Apparently, this is due to the fact that LucasArts only licensed the rights to use the movie music in these games, and doesn't want to risk upsetting the other copyright holders.

It's worth noting that all of the game soundtracks not related to those two franchises are still available. Still, this is pretty sad news to hear.
