Jack Rodford, a self named "Hardcore Monkey Island Fan" told Mixnmojo earlier today that he really liked Escape From Monkey Island: "I don?t get what all the fuss was about. I laughed a lot." said Rodford, a gamer from Reading, Pennsylvania. Rodford insists that he did, in fact, play the first three Monkey Island games before playing the fourth. "Monkey Kombat was personally my favorite part of the game," continued Rodford, "I couldn't get enough of it. When Guybrush performed the Charging Chimp you can bet that I was up out of my seat doing it right along side him." Rodford has set to start a club of "Hardcord Monkey Fans" like himself who enjoyed EMI. "With any luck, we can have more members than the number of people who have registered mIRC!" More on this story as it develops.

LucasArts, in a surprise announcement, is set to release SCUMM to the public this November.

"We've taken the plunge into the open-source movement made popular by software like Netscape's Mozilla and the popular open-source Linux operating system" said a LucasArts spokesperson. "Games that will be marketing using the SCUMM engine will have to pay 40% in royalties."

When asked why they chose this moment to release SCUMM, LucasArts replied: "Well we were browsing some fan sites when we saw this petition for the public release of SCUMM and we were convinced."

SCUMM will be released in source code adapted to the Windows, Macintosh, Linux, and BeOS platforms.

Ron Gilbert has finally spilled the beans about his story idea for Monkey
Island 3 in the British game magazine, GameZpire. Here is a section from the article:

"Three words: 3D ice levels. I always had it in my head that the third and final Monkey Island game would be completely rendered in 3D. Guybrush would find himself in the midst of a terrible Carribean snowstorm. The ocean would be completely frozen over, and Guybrush has to navigate across to get back home. The interesting thing about that was to have the physics engine work in overtime. Imagine, as Guybrush approaches a steep cliff, he just can't stop and he slips right over the edge... because he's walking on ice! Other games might have used an idea like this in the past, but I came up with the idea first. I just never got to do it. And this is before 3D games were even the norm! Maybe someday LucasArts will sell me Monkey Island and I can do it right. Of course, the game would end up back in a carnival, since that was the original secret. I can just hear the internet fans complaining now that it's out in the open."

Not really MOJO news but its the nearest I can get!

Anyway The Scumm Bar have recently added a wordsearch game which can be found HERE. They then started a new competition so that you visit the new game!

The "SILLY WORD SPOTTER COMPETITION 2001".
All you do is to go to The Scumm Bar's wordsearch and take a screenshot showing the strangest word you
can find. As an example, I managed to find "SKY" and "FOX"
in the same grid."

Of course with any competition needs prizes and the prize is a 'thescummbar.com' e-mail address

Today is a day of Celebrations. I finally won my batte with Network solutions. I dont think the site its self has realised yet, but after endless faxes and pain:www.thescummbar.com once again points to The Scummbar. YES!

It has been pointing to Telefragged for the last 5 months when it should have been pointing here, but because telefragged put themselves as admin contacts and then ignored my requests to change it, it was stuck that way. Apologies to Skyfox who has had to cope with that annoying forwarding page. Now go to TheScummbar.com!

Well, we are clearly, unarguably now out of the 20th century. And to celebrate we are going to review and feature LucasArts' games from throughout the 1990's. However before we begin that, we've got some reviews of games from the 80's to post. So, here for your enjoyment: The Mixnmojo review of Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders - One of LEC's first ever Adventure titles from 1988.

The Essential Guide to MI has updated their site with statments on why they are not going to support Escape from Monkey Island on their site:
Five simple words: "This is not Monkey Island."

It is a fact. Well, after most of the original LucasArts artist, writers, composers and programmers left... perhaps they didn't want to be forced to produce commercial games based on that long StarWars toy commercial called: The Phantom Menace... there wasn't enough creativity or criticism left at LucasArts to continue the Monkey Island Series......

After much harassment and many death threats from Sam & Max forum admin Isaac Klinger The Unofficial Sam & Max Website has been updated for its second birthday! A full on redesign is in the works (there's a preview up on the site) but for now you'll have to settle with just the news.

Apologies to those of you who won the ULTIMATE INSULT contest we ran over Xmas. I have not yet sent out the games, but fear not they wil be sent this week. Shipping 10 copies of a game to 10 different places costs more than I thought. Again - sorry, and your games will be with you soon.

Ok, I'm back from sunny Rome. That place rocks. and some news that will affect regulars at #Monkey-Island chat channel on IRC DALnet. They have apparently banned BTinternet users from the DALnet service.
This hasnt yet affected BT ADSL users, but no one else is able to chat with other #mi goers. As usual when things lke this occur, a petition is created. To have your say head on over to the Forums

I saw this over at Escapemi.com, It has nothing to do with LEC but I thought I'd better mention it!

With the recent fall of the Gamecenter Alliance, Gamecenter offically closed their doors today. Gamecenter, which voted Escape from Monkey Island the best adventure game of 2000, will be replaced by Gamespot. Since C|Net bought out ZDNet, they sort of have the power to do that. Be sure and visit Gamecenter one last time and check out the fairwell articles that the staff posted.

Hi, I?m the new news updater for Mixnmojo.com, If you remember Spaff advertised about two weeks ago. My name is Graeme Chicken (Don't Laugh, I know that your laughing) and that is why my nickname is EL POLLO DIABLO. My e-mail address is epd@mixnmojo.com and my ICQ Number is 66222019.

I have always visited Mixnmojo.com since I got the Internet a long time ago (not in a Galaxy far, far away!! HEHEHE). I have played all LucasArts Adventure games and all PC Star Wars games except Dark Forces 2. I have not completed all of the LucasArts Adventure games. I also have a Escape From Monkey Island Site which is at this address http://graeme.escapemi.com

That?s it I'm finished for now and I?ll see you in the Future updating Star Wars News.

I always thought it would be a sad day when I'd have to post this news item.
As a lot of you will know I, Narrative, has been almost extinct when it comes to the Mojo community since last year which includes IRC, Mojo, Scummbar and sadly updating my Dig site hosted here on Mixnmojo.
The reasons for this are varied but centre around a new serious threat on my health which I regrettably can't help. As of which, I don't believe I can put in the energy, time and effort which Mixnmojo and its sites thrive on.

Which leads me on a hunt for a successor to run my Dig site as either a Co-Runner if I get through this, or to take over the site entirely if worse comes to the worse.
There's no real formal process for this, just send me an e-mail to Im_Lost@Rocketmail.Com basically describing who you are and why you want to run the site. Also mention if you've had any input in the past to the site.

I'll choose the most appropriate person from the applications sent, who will then get all the passwords, logins etc. to update the site and I'll also send you a zip, full of stuff which was meant to be used in the next update but sadly didn't get to.
With my health, the future is looking a bit bleak, and it doesn't look like there's much chance of me getting better and re-joining the community anytime soon, so just incase I don't get the opportunity, I'd like to use this post just to say my goodbyes. I'd also like to say that the Mixnmojo community is really going places and things can only get better! I've been part of many different internet communities, but I can say with assurance that this is certainly the most special community and I'm proud to think I helped be a part of it.
To whoever gets the torch for the Dig website handed down all the way from Tabias, Me and now to you, Good Luck.

See you Later Peps,
Matt Shaw (AKA Narrative)

Many thanks to them for taking us onboard their network. Hooray! Celebrations!
