LucasArts has announced that it is running one monster of a contest on behalf of Knights of the Old Republic.

First prize is a some-expenses-paid trip to California to tour the LucasArts building and have your likeness put into a game. For those of you who always wanted to play a part as Guybrush?s sister or Stormtrooper #2859, this may be your chance. Other prizes include an Alienware PC, a replica of Obi-Wan?s lightsaber, and LucasArts games.

Click here to enter the contest. And as for those of you living outside the US and/or are under the age of 18, you?re once again out of luck.

* The possibility of playing Guybrush?s sister or some stormtrooper is pure speculation on my part.

Well, we sure have been gone for a while. Sorry about that. And while we were gone, a ton of things have happened in the world o' LucasArts, good and bad. Here are some of the major events in no particular order:<:MORENEWS:>
  • Hal Barwood's RTX Red Rock was released, earning mostly negative reviews and poor sales.

  • Hal Barwood left LucasArts shortly after.

  • The eagerly anticipated Star Wars Galaxies was released. Reviews were mixed and the launch was a little dicey, but the future could be bright for this online thingy.

  • Knights of the Old Republic was released to rave reviews and phenomenal sales. Rumors of a sequel have already begun.

  • LucasArts PR guy Tom Sarris left the company. So long, Tom.

  • Full Throttle 2: Hell on Wheels was cancelled. LucasArts President Simon Jeffery stated that the company didn't want to risk disappointing fans of the original.

  • Simon Jeffery surprised us all by turning in his rather sudden resignation. LucasArts PR stated that Simon wishes to return to his friends and family in England, although it's all very fishy...

  • Rogue Leader: Rebel Strike was released for Gamecube, getting mostly positive reviews.

  • Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy was released for PC and seems to be doing pretty well. Expect the Xbox version in stores next week.

  • Gladius came out for the PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube. Reviews have been fairly positive so far.

  • Secret Weapons Over Normandy went gold.

  • Armed and Dangerous went gold.

  • I bought a new plant for my desk at work

Well there ya go. I'm sure I've missed some things, but those are the major events that I can think up at the moment. Feel free to drop a comment and add to the list.

Since Mojo's clearly not back yet (though we promise it will return!), we haven't exactly been doing our job of keeping everyone up to date with previews of upcoming LEC titles. However, there are nice previews of Armed & Dangerous here, and Wrath Unleashed here. Both are worth checking out, as both of those games look like they could be good and fun in their own sort of off-beat ways. Also, Armed & Dangerous's official site has been given a face lift, featuring quality comedy marketing copy.

The reviews are in, and it seems like Gladius may have somewhat shaken off the curse of the poorly reviewed LucasArts in-house titles.

In its review, GameSpot gives a score of 8.7 and states that "Gladius is not just a great game but, in certain ways, a pioneering one." Games Domain gives the title a 4 out of 5 rating and warns that "late nights await its purchasers." PlayStation Magazine also gives the game 4 out of 5 stars and states, "A ridiculous concept? Yes. But also fun and engrossing."

The only negative review thus far seems to be from GameTab, still giving the title a 3.0 on a scale of 5. The reviewer acknowledges that the game has strong graphics and sound, but feels that the maladjusted controls and storytelling make the game "an unforgiving trip into gladiator lore." Now we just have to see how the game does financially, eh?

LucasArts.com has announced that Gladius is now out
for PlayStation 2 and Xbox. So go buy it, or something! GameCubers will have to wait until November 3rd (like, a week, man) to enter the arena. Since it wasn't mentioned previously, the nice-looking and entirely GC-exclusive (for the moment) Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike has also been recently released. Hooray!

According to the LA Times, Simon Jeffery "abruptly resigned" as president of LucasArts after three years of leading the company. No other details are given, and LucasArts has not made any comment so far.

So what does this mean? Well, if you feel like it, stop by our forums to discuss and speculate until you just can't stand it any longer.

Update (Jake): GameSpot reports that Mr. Jeffery "has decided to leave the company and return to his native England with his family." They also say that Mike Nelson, LucasArts' vice president, will be acting general manager until they find a new Simon.

Let's remember the good times.

LucasArts has announced that everyone's favorite Gladius, Gladius, has gone gold! The multi-console bound RPG will be in stores October 29th, just two days before my birthday. I expect multiple copies from all of you. Find out more about The Gladius at the official site.

In other news, the Largest Ball of Twine in the World has turned 50. It might actually be the second largest ball... or third. But it's turned 50.

Apparently now that they don't include Max in every game, LucasArts has decided to start including him with games. According to EBGames.com's Armed & Dangerous page, anyone who pre-orders the PC version will get a CD containing Armed & Dangerous concept art, music clips, and the opening cutscene. If that isn't enough, the pre-order bonus disc also includes the full version of Sam & Max Hit the Road!

This pre-order bonus is of course a followup to the Rebel Strike Gamecube bonus disc, which includes a Gamecube compatible version of the old old vector Star Wars arcade game by Atari. Good stuff, I tell you. The Rebel Strike pre-order bonus disc promo is going on at almost every retail chain and online store (in the US at least), so it's probably safe to assume that the Armed & Dangerous one isn't limited only to EBGames. (Update: The GameStop.com pre-order page has a couple more details about the disk and pre-order deal)

LucasArts has some goodies you might enjoy. Then again you might not. I enjoyed them. The first thing is that there's now a full official site for Secret Weapons Over Normandy, featuring all sorts of litle pictures and statistics and some of the game's promising sounding musical score. Worth checking out.

Also worth checking out is the new box art to Armed & Dangerous. I like it quite a bit. For those who don't know, Armed & Dangerous is a new comedy/action game by Planet Moon studios, the creators of MDK and Giants: Citizen Kabuto. LucasArts is publishing it.

After being a very permanent fixture at LucasArts for the past 13 years, veteran game designer Hal Barwood is leaving LucasArts. Marek of Adventure Gamers fame just pointed me to this story over at Gamasutra for more details. While at LucasArts, Barwood worked on games including Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Big Sky Trooper, Yoda Stories, Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine, and most recently RTX Red Rock. Mojo wishes Mr. Barwood the best of luck in whatever's next.

LGH of iMuse Island has informed me that Music 4 Games has published an article about the upcoming live orchestral score for Secret Weapons Over Normandy. The article even has an MP3 of the main theme, so check it out!

Also while you're at it, there is another article on the same site concerning the live score for Wrath: Unleased. I sense a trend... and I am pleased.

IGN published this article today, claiming that LucasArts has announced the cancellation of Full Throttle: Hell on Wheels. Shortly after that, LucasArts also published a mention on their own website with a quote from Simon Jeffery:

"We do not want to disappoint the many fans of Full Throttle," says Simon Jeffery, president of LucasArts, "and hope everyone can understand how committed we are to delivering the best quality gaming experience that we possibly can."

After attending the LucasArts Press Day last Friday, we noticed that Full Throttle: Hell on Wheels had been taken off the schedule to be shown that day. After asking Tom Sarris, we were told that the game had missed its milestones and will be delayed six months. Of course, until there is some kind of official announcement or something, you might want to wait before throwing a fit.

Keep an eye out on this site around the weekend to read about our experiences at the Press Day. Also, who knows? Maybe we'll have some server news? *cough*

Our hard drive is still off somewhere in mystery town. No, we're not worried. No, we don't know when it will come back. No, we don't think any of the files are erased. No, we're not going to close or anything. We're just experiencing a momentary apathy lapse. Let's wallow.

...

Okay, so now that we're over that: Comic-Con! LucasArts will have a booth and be showing off their latest Star Wars games at this years gigantic San Diego nerd-fest (starting Thursday July 17th and running through the weekend). In addition to showing off Galaxies and the like at their booth, members of their development teams will be speaking at various
panels throughout the con.

On the list of speakers is Sam & Max 2 designer Mike Stemmle, who is speaking in a panel called "Pencils vs. Polygons." Hopefully we'll hear his thoughts on that, and, erm well also some juicy tidbits about the new game. In addition to all that stuff, LucasArts' Internet Community Relations Person Lady, Ronda Scott, will apparently be publishing some sort of weblog during the con, possibly against her will. Check out the LAALFLC Comic-Con page for more info.

Er wait. Really, screw Comic-Con. What you really want to do is post on the Mixnmojo Forums a lot.

Lots of new (and early) updates from LucasArts.com yesterday evening. First, you can check out the Knights of the Old Repbulic page for a profile on a new character by the name of Canderous Ordo.

Then, stop by the Ask LucasArts section if you want to find out how the Xbox port of The Clone Wars will be different from the Gamecube and PS2 versions. (Hint: Xbox Live)

There is a new screenshot of the week as well from Gladius. This shot seems to demonstrate the game's interface during the battle sequences.

And finally, the RTX Red Rock page has been updated to include audio clips of one-liners from the main characters. You adventure gamers may want to pay particular attention to Boris Dezurov, as his voice seems to be quite familiar beneath that Russian accent. Yarr!

On a side note, there is still no official word from LucasArts concerning the rumored cancellation of the RTX Red Rock Gamecube port, but we were told to expect more info "soon."

As pointed out by Royal Fool in the Adventure Gamers Forums, LucasArts has removed all mention of the Gamecube from the RTX Red Rock site and press release stuff (to prove that I'm not crazy, here's the old RTX site with the GC logo).

Hopefully the Gamecube release is only delayed and not cancelled (the recent RTX preview at Gamespot said the Gamecube release was lagging behind), but it's a disappointing rumor to us Gamecube owners nontheless.

Update: LEC says more info on whats up with the Gamecube version will be coming soon, so we still have no idea what's up. :)

For some reason, my local newspaper in Dallas, Texas ran an article on the recent groundbreaking for the new Presidio complex in San Francisco.

This new complex, as you probably know, will house the recent merger of LucasArts, Skywalker Sound, ILM, and more. The article also seems to state that the venture will be called Letterman Digital Arts Ltd.. Does that mean that this will be the new name for LucasArts?

Here is the picture that ran for the article, in case you are at all interested.

Gilles from theraider.net pointed out that a couple of the the long-rumored (long rumored?) Gladius action figures have appeared in photo form on this crazy action figure website, along with a clip from a press release.

Of course, this being Mojo and whatnot, I guess I'm obligated to ask where the Full Throttle, Monkey Island, Sam & Max, Grim Fandango, and most importantly Mixnmojo Staff action figures are?! For now, enjoy Gladius figures.
