Costume Quest now available for potential trick-or-treaters 20 Oct, 2010 / 9 comments

Despite Mojo telling you that Double Fine's Halloween-themed Costume Quest would be out next week, the game has been released. Go, PSN-ers and XBLA-ers: it's yours for $15, or 1200 MP.

Read an interview about the game with project leader Tasha Harris by clicking here.

You could all point your fingers at us and say we mentioned an incorrect release date. But let's be honest: the only logical explanation is that this week is also next week and that time is a lie. Don't believe me? Check the PSN Store and XBLA. Costume Quest is there, despite us telling you it wouldn't be.

You Japanese (or can read Japanese) then? If so, you bastard, you've played Mother 3 properly. I will never forgive Nintendo for not releasing it in English.

I'm a translator (Japanese to German) working for a Japanese video game company! Mother 3 was bliss, let's hope that Nintendo somehow manages to sort out the legal / rating issues (or whatever it was that kept the game from being released originally) and the game gets a rerelease for that new portable Virtual Console on the 3DS. It really deserves a bigger audience.

Anyway, Costume Quest: All kinds of awesome! Played it until four in the morning last night, just couldn't put it down. 1UP has a pretty good review up. And don't listen to IGN - they're wrong! ;-)

Personally im hesitant to risk getting attached to the characters given the history of anti-sequel-ism. So far all the tim games tend to create an envioronment you often leave wanting more. I want more Full Throttle that take place 10-20 years later, a new Grim tale with an entirely new cast, more psychonauts of any kind and more Brutal Legendry. But really... if BL isnt going to get a sequel with the momentum and celebrity support it had it seems nothing will.
Yeah ill probably get the game but ill do so while accepting that it more than likely be a one off (barring episodic style release)

Ah, now THIS I don't mind, although I am annoyed that Brutal Legend didn't do well enough to warrant a sequel.

Psychonauts though... I'm prepared to bet my Mojo paycheque for the next year that one of the games Double Fine announces will be Psychonauts related.

Can't really get excited for a game that's not on either of the 2 platforms I own.

Can't really get excited for a game that's not on the 1 platform I'm prepared to pay for digital games on. I HATE Microsoft points, incidentally.

It's amazing. Even if Schafer isn't handling the entirety of the writing duties, this game is still SOAKING in that perfectly-tuned Double Fine style of comedy.

Brilliant little game. I'm almost happy that it was a bite-sized download, it boils so much down to atmosphere, humor and simple, effective design.

Best thing I've played since Mother 3 on the GBA.

I'm loving the living hell out of this game. Best thing I've played since Mother 3 on the GBA. Most JPRGs these days focus too much on fancy combat systems when really they should be telling a story and be somewhat fun to play. Costume Quest doesn't try too hard to be the next Grand Theft Auto (this is something that Brütal Legend may be a little guilty of) but instead delivers a rock-solid gaming experience with lots of fun details to keep you from getting bored. I just love punching everybody out on the street just to see how they react. I'm at the mall right now, and the graphics are just great - clean and minimalistic so you can actually get a feeling for each location. One of my favorite games to be released this year so far!

Lots of quotable dialogue in here, too:
"You're not making any sense, but I like you!"
