You will be humming this for the next few months 20 May, 2010 / 9 comments

Another timely update!

This video depicts the Secret of Monkey Island theme, played through different sound cards. The more anal retentive among you, aka Zaarin, will point out that some of the years are off. But whatever. Watch it anyway.

Yeah, I've been humming this tune non stop since 1990. My girlfriend is working on getting me to stop doing it while I'm sleeping.

That is a sweet nostalgia trip. I like the first half of the video much better than the second half, for some reason :~

Next 6 months? I've been humming it for 20 years! Or close to it. Or something.

My favorite version remains the Adlib one.

Well not all of that was really evolution! Some of that stuff is like comparing a Mercedes from 2 years ago with a brand new Toyota sedan. I wonder how expensive some of those Roland cards were...
And the last one is actually pre-synthesized (?) wave sound, so I don't think it would quite count if you see it as evolution. Before that one, all of those were "orders" to the sound card to produce certain sounds, and not pre-recorded things. They might as well have played The Curse of Monkey Island and for its purpose it would have been correct.
Still, awesome stuff! Maybe I need to stop thinking ahead before the video is over. My point is that they cheated the evolution a little bit.

    very cool stuff!

And yet that first card performed to fulfill its task really well! The melody is so strong I bet it works on pots and pans.

That second Roland card really kicked in with the bass.
