It shall be a day long remembered. The XWVM Team has released their new game engine for the 1993 LucasArts classic "Star Wars: X-Wing". Like other such virtual machines (see Dark Forces' "Force Engine" and the VR Port of Jedi Outcast), this requires the original game to be installed on your machine for the new game engine to tap into. Cheap as chips on Steam & GOG if you don't already have it. The new XWVM engine is a free download, of course.
Along with the new engine, there is also a new high-res model pack, and other optional upgrades such as in-mission dialogue. So if you're inspired after "Andor" and want to get your Rebellion on, this is the perfect way to do it. Play the original Larry Holland & Edward Kilham Star Wars combat sim in 2025 gaming rig glory.

And yes, it looks like TIE-Fighter is in the works too.
