World of Monkey Island returns from a 2003-esque Mojo downtime 15 Feb, 2017 / 13 comments

Remember the aughties, when there were more Monkey Island sites than you could shake a stick at? What a glorious time it was, what with the competitive feces throwing going on between all of them. Us. You know what I mean—we were clearly all very mature. ¬

Now, you might have noticed that the second-rate, SCUMM Bar-wannabe website our good friends, World of Monkey Island, has been offline for a while. Many asked us about it, but that was out of our hands, as the site actually was hosted by LFN, not Mojo. Hey, we even tried to save them. That went nowhere fast. But I digress!

Fast forward to present time, and World of Monkey Island has returned online. Granted, it clearly was restored from an older backup, but it’s out there, and it’s working, which is good for… Well, clearly for somebody!

If the old Mojo Network keeps un-dying like this, we'll have Chariset’s The Definitive Monkey Island Site up by the end of the week.

I would be most amused if Mojo puts back up Chariset's site. Which was definitely not run by "Chester" from LucasArts. No sir.

    Good News!
Good to see old content up again.
I do wonder what happened to the text though.
There seems to be some symbols creating errors.
This seems to be an issue over the whole site, but it makes the fan fictions especially problematic to read.
    One example:

First I want you to excuse my incredible noobity. Now, my question is: What exactly is the problem about resurrecting LucasForums? Not meaning this as a critique, but just as a question, I'm really wondering as I'm sort of new in the community and never got the problem about that.

We have no control over anything LFN-related, LucasFormus included. Having tried to contact the admins before (including many futile attempts to get World of MI back in one shape or other) we really cannot do anything about that server.

This was why did our whole Patreon thing, to get away from LFN. Considering the state of the network over the last few years, it was clearly the right thing to do. :~

    Thank you (thx [1138]).
    Did not know that one.
T'is no good. Dark times are coming over us.
a.k.a. The third shadow is nigh.
No, seriously, it really makes me sad! I became fan in 2015 and kinda missed The-Glorious-TimesTM. Well, that's very interesting for you, right? Oh, I sound egocentric.
    Anyway, thank you.
And, by the way, thank you for keeping da Mojo alive!

The thought of Mojo going down is terrifying. I hope you guys do backups regularly, ha :)

Goodness gracious it makes me feel old to see posts from 2009 about Tales of Monkey Island. We were so excited because it had been "forever" since we had a new Monkey Island game!

Out of curiosity, I just did the math: once we hit January 10, 2019, it will be the longest amount of time we've waited for a new Monkey Island game.

That makes me sad. Come on E3 2017, you better deliver :p

Not at all trying to preempt anything Mixnmojo is up to, but if you want to join us on Facebook I started a "Lucasarts Adventure Games" group - partially because the old forums be dead: https://www.facebook.com/groups/lucasartsadventures/

For real though I love mojo, I'm a patreon supporter, and you should be too. If forums ever come back here I'll be among the first to join!

I'm holding out for Harkenblugen Lugen's fan club, or SNESgirl's Booty Island site
