Guybrush is currently getting absolutely whipped by Ryo at the GameFAQs character vote. It's not hopeless yet, though. Get on over there and vote for our favorite pirate.

    i would not dare to choose between any of these characters... monkey island is my favorite but hey there are solid snake(!), dante, ryo, ryu, mario ... argh. i love them all.

    Umm, yeah. So both Guybrush and Ryo are good, but Shenmue is so new compared to MI, I was really surprised that it had gained a following so quickly. I guess all the Monkey Islanders are dying of old age already.

    maybe they are not dying... maybe they just don't go to some website to vote for their favourite game character ever because they have no time after marrying some supermodel...

    i'm too young for marriage but i have the strange vision that monkeyislanders like us will get hot supermodels... [at least one] yeah :) just because we love monkey island and learned the adorable "threepwood"-way of life.

    - well, not as much as your comment (why don't you tell them why it sucks...). shenmue has the success it deserves and it's really good (!) and the only one of it's kind ... i hope you really think it sucks (i don't care about your missing taste here) and you don't say that only because you don't like guybrush to be on place 2 (some folks believe you have to hate one to show that they really love the other one - that's -of course- bollux). do you even know ryo hazuki? (no; not from the cover or from playing it in the super-market)

    I'm sorry, guess I touched a soft spot.

    It sux because it beats Guybrush. And I do actually have Shenmue, and it is a nice game - Sure, it's interactive and contains lots of dialogue, but it's not my favourite game, because it can get very dull indeed. It's good, but it's not on the same level as Final Fantasy VII, Zelda Ocarina or Monkey Island, IMO.

    :) no, not a soft spot ... sometimes there are these little destructive posts that make me nervous... but it seems this one was not as serious as it appeared. sorry.

    so i see you have taste - ocarina of time is one of my favourites, too. (and final fantasy is brilliant aswell)
