We're so not late reviewing Broken Age, Act II 11 Nov, 2015 / 2 comments

We were down, OK? Mojo was DOWN, and so we had to take some extra time to get this review up. It's not our fault!

But now it's up, and since you clearly... well, I'm sure you've already played it, but maybe you are waiting for another opinion to figure out how you feel... Here's another opinion, OK? Relatively on time. ¬

I loved the puzzles in Act 2. I never felt they were too difficult either. Hard, yes, but never too difficult.

I totally agree with your statement that Schafer-games (including all the other Double Fine/Lucas adventure games) are more about exploring a very interesting and well-thought out world rather than about hitting Simpsons-style hilarious punchlines every other sentence. They can sometimes do that, but for me the real charm and magic always came from wanting to see every nook and cranny of whatever world I was exploring, knowing that I would be rewarded for it. Just an incredible sense of place. Not to say that games like Full Throttle, Grim Fandango or Broken Age aren't funny (they totally are), but that was never the biggest selling point for me.

Oh yeah I also really liked Broken Age. I agree that the jump in difficulty between Act 1 and 2 feels a bit sudden, but in the end I think I preferred Act 2, even though I never really thought of myself as a puzzle fan. I thought all the puzzles were fair and totally solvable, even if some of them took me a long time.
