Um, news! 29 Jul, 2002, 18:01 / 11 comments

LucasArts.com has again updated it's 20th anniversary site with a new image, as well as making some necessary (ahem) corrections. The new image is concept art from The Empire Strikes Back, which I assume was made into a LucasArts game at some point :).

Maybe for next week we ought to ask LucasArts to show us the alternate (original) box cover for Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II.

I have a few small pictures of it in my '97-'98 catalog, and it shows what appears to be a painting of Kyle and Jerec fighting beneath some statues in the Valley of the Jedi.

The final boxcover shows computer-created models of Kyle and Jerec fighting, this time in an Imperial building of some sort, as stormtroopers fire yellow laser bolts.

I also have on my computer a scanned version of the painting that was done for the box of the JK/MotS compilation (from the artist's webpage) showing a first-person view of a fight with Darth Vader.

Not to mention some old JK 1 screens lifted from LucasArts' old product page (found via web.archive.org) and a few versions of the first JO logo released...neat, huh?

The new image is from the Super Nintendo game, Super The Empire Strikes Back, by the way.

I've played it on a SNES emulator on my PC, and that's a design for the main menu background.

Argh, you'd think that it would say "Super Star Wars" instead of "Star Wars". I have played Super ESB.

The image still says The Dig so, I don't how that is different from the friday update.

What? No it doesn't. You're all crazy, by the way.

Yo Man! I have cleared my history and temporary internet files. The picture still claims it's from The Dig.

Metallus have you been hitting the wacky tabacky? :)

Maybe the LEC servers are out of sync and you're hitting one that's not updated. I see 'LOOM' emblazened on the bottom corner. Perhaps tomorrow you will see the updated one :)

    I also see "Loom."

    Yep, "Loom".

The Loom/Dig mixup? It's actually image 2/5 - Image 3 is the Grim Fandango concept art.
