Three year old screenshots for PSP version of Indy: revealed! 03 Mar, 2009 / Comments: 6

A somewhat weird stash of screenshots can be found over at Unseen 64, belonging to the PSP version of Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings, which as you may know is being developed by the studio Amaze. (As is well-known, A2M is behind the now main Wii/PS2 versions, and I'm still not entirely sure who's doing the DS version.)

The authors of the site seem to be going by outdated information, under the mistaken impression that the PSP version is in danger of cancellation, but the screenshots, which they claim come from 2006/2007 from when the game was still called Staff of Moses, are definitely interesting to look at, and the visuals look better for PSP than what we've seen of the Wii version looks for its platform. Like the DS version, the PSP version is said to be a pretty different game (though obviously within the same general story and universe), though it's unclear exactly in what way.

The screenshots don't look as foggy as on the Wii, which is a good thing. I'm not too fond of the detail though, but not owning the system, I don't know what the standard is.

    A PSP is basically a PS2.

Yeah, basically. For some reason the way the system renders 3D leaves some distortion and grain reminiscent of PS1-era graphics, and the display resolution isn't very large, but it's got some real power and a game with graphics like these screenshots will look pretty dang impressive on that little screen-- especially in motion.

Those don't look like the actual display resolution of the PSP, but they do look pretty good. I'll give it a try-- I'm looking forward to playing a game where Indy wanders around desolate environments not fighting or talking to anybody.

    I kid, I kid.

    Hehe ... A2M.

Anyway, those screenshots do look quite pretty. I'm amazed by what folks can do on handheld systems these days.

A2M are doing the DS version too, btw.
