They're here! LucasArts Games Are Now On GOG.com 28 Oct, 2014 / 9 comments

The goal that the team at GOG.com has been working towards since it opened its doors back in 2008 has been accomplished. LucasArts games are now on GOG.com. X-Wing, Tie Fighter, Knights of the Old Republic, and The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition are only available for Windows, while Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis and Sam & Max Hit the Road are available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

That's right, the SCUMM games are actually using ScummVM! The lawyers who used to work for Lucas legal probably nearly had a heart attack when they read this news.

So, it seems the original DOS iMuse versions of X-Wing and TIE Fighter are the original floppy versions, not the superior Collector's CD-ROM editions. The Collector's editions had voice acting for the cut-scenes and briefings, plus a higher resolution.

Kinda disappointing that the best DOS versions aren't the ones being sold.

Lots of discussion here, so hopefully GOG will remedy this.

I noticed that too. I wish they'd continue to use the LucasArts name and logo for such releases. The in-house development studio may be gone and the LucasArts name may as well not even exist on paper anymore, but it would only make sense to release these titles under the original brand they were part of. That's what people will recognize after all.

I mean, I watched a recent Blu-ray edition of Dances with Wolves last week and the opening logos still include Orion Pictures, which if you are not aware, was decimated eons ago. Okay, it's probably a shoddy comparison.

Is there a reason the announcement omitting the "LucasArts" name, using "Lucas titles" and "Lucasfilm games" instead?

The copyright notices on individual games does mention LucasArts.

I've noticed that the LucasArts name is disappearing a lot lately (the games section of Lucasfilm no longer mentions LucasArts, and the publisher of Tiny Death Star is now listed as Disney instead of LucasArts).

And I didn't even get to pimp Jason out to make this happen. :~

Waiting for X-Wing Alliance, Rogue Squadron, Shadows of the Empire, The Phantom Menace, Episode I: Racer, Full Throttle and Grim Fandango (the latter will probably and hopefully be the Remastered version).

This will be the fourth time I've bought FOA. Floppy disk, cd-rom, Steam, and now GOG. Looking forward to getting Sam and Max digitally too, though I've got the floppies and cd for that somewhere also.
