"The Secret of Monkey Island gets a Limited Run for the Sega CD" 19 Feb, 2020 / 11 comments

Some of us might not have seen this one coming. From Limited Run’s Twitter:

Join Guybrush Threepwood as he seeks to complete three trials on Mêlée Island and become a full-fledged pirate. And all is not what it seems... The Secret of Monkey Island gets a Limited Run for the Sega CD on Friday, February 28 at 10am & 6pm ET on http://limitedrungames.com.

Well, huh! Mojo will return with more.

This is such a weird version to re-release. Closest thing to the CD VGA version I guess, but not by any means a definitive edition. Also, I'm pretty sure the PC version coming out is the Special Edition which is rather disappointing as yet again, LucasArts seem to be burying the original game and forcing people to buy the (in my opinion) inferior version, it's almost as bad as what's been done with the original Star Wars trilogy...and I say almost simply because Macklunkey is now a thing that exists. I'm always happy of course that Monkey Island gets any attention in today's gaming world, but I'm still hoping it gets a bit more recognition than a limited box release for its 30th anniversary. The PS5 needs a new game to boost its sales after all ????

Ahh sorry, that CE version is the Sega CD version of course.

The PC version collector's edition is apparently coming in autumn.

The PC version is incoming as well. Crazy price though, but I kind of want it, but that price, shipping costs, customs and tax would kill me.

It sound like the PC version is coming later this year.

As seen on Twitter: "I actually confirmed with the head honchos just a few minutes ago... we're actually doing a PC release later in the year! -C"

The original announcement had MI1 and/or 2 original PC versions and special editions, I believe - plus CMI, which must be the original PC version too I guess. But we'll see...

While I'm glad they didn't go with the special editions, I'm not sure why they went for Sega CD.

What will they do for 2, the FM Towns version?

    Hahahaha

i found out that the sega CD version has something unique, and unusual in early pc adventure games, which is SMOOTH SCROLLING!
you know early pc adventure games had no smooth scrolling, even PC platformers at the time between 1990-1997 weren't as near as game consoles in general, except for captain claw
