Terrible Toybox -- aka Ronzo and Winnick -- is making another adventure game 18 Aug, 2020 / 3 comments

If you were a person of good taste, you'd already know this from reading our forums, but if for whatever reason you're not...

Terrible Toybox are looking for an art director, and as you will see in the description, the studio is working on an "unannounced 2D pixel art adventure game." That's pretty much it. But Ronzo and Winnick and new adventure game are words you want to hear together.

Excited? Go to the forums and giddy your heart out there!

Whilst I am thrilled to hear that Ron is making another adventure game, I am a bit saddened, because his new adventure game engine requires Windows 10 and above. I am still on Windows 8 and have no desire to upgrade for a single game. I was unable to play Delores for the same reason. It's a shame because I suspect that a lot of adventure game fans like myself are using older operating systems (we're not exactly a cutting-edge-graphics obsessed crowd, on the whole). I think it would be wise to incorporate Windows 8/older Direct X support into the new engine, even if it takes a fair bit of effort to do so. I think they'd be losing a fair few sales if they neglect that sector of the audience.

Wow, didn't see this coming. I thought Ron has said a couple of times he didn't want to do another one after TP because the time/money/effort wasn't worth it for him anymore. Very happy though, loved TP way more than I expected.

I remember Ron saying that. The thing is that at the time I wondered if he was really taking the Kickstarter backers into consideration when it came to viewing the sales figures. After all, surely a large number of core customers were the very people who financed the game to begin with and had no need to purchase another copy once it launched onto online stores.

Also, I suspect that the sales have been steady and ongoing over time, so that may have had some bearing on Ron's stance. A point & click adventure game is never really very likely to be a massive hit out of the gate but the long term sales are likely more stable than a lot of the bigger releases.

No complaints here, I just hope they do a big box release!
