(Closed!) Here's your chance to become famous! Well, not really, but you should participate anyway. We at Mixnmojo have been granted an exclusive interview with the producers of Hal Barwood's upcoming action adventure, RTX Red Rock.

If you would like to submit your own questions, please leave a comment on this post or send a Mojo Message to telarium and we will pick the best ones. Keep in mind that most of these questions will be answered by the producer Reeve Thompson, but if you'd like to submit a few questions to Hal Barwood as well, he may just surprise us and answer a few of them. Note the emphasis on "few."

Dear Mojo peeps, I'll be insulted and deeply disappointed in your professionalism if The_Petrified_Monkey's, twifkak's, ZeroXcape's, and my questions - especially the latter, more important ones - are "censored" on their way to the interview.
  • telarium on 20 Dec, 2002, 14:09…
    Then prepare to be disappointed.
  • Kingzjester on 20 Dec, 2002, 14:51…
    Bahstha'd.

Does no-one care for the plight of the North Sea fishermen and their prey...? *sob*
  • The_Petrified_Monkey on 20 Dec, 2002, 11:57…
Do you find the situation with cod fishing in the North Sea disturbing? How would you rectify such a difficult state of affairs when everyone knows British people (for some UNKNOWN reason) need a constant supply of Cod for fish and chips.

Does he see Hok as a viable alternative to Cod?

    Also, boxers or briefs...?
  • twifkak on 20 Dec, 2002, 13:05…
Also, why are airlines starting to give out in-flight bags of pretzels instead of peanuts? What's up with that?
  • Sloth on 20 Dec, 2002, 11:29…
Before you started work on RTX Red Rock, you seemed to be the resident "Indiana Jones" guy over there at LucasArts, first with Fate of Atlantis and then The Infernal Machine. Now Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb is being developed out-of-house, by the Collective. Are you disappointed about not getting the chance to work on this new Indy game? Have you had a chance to see their progress on The Emperor's Tomb?

    - How did the idea for RTX originally came about?
    - Do you think there might be a PC port some day?
    - The RTX team has reportedly taken much effort in bringing the scenery to life. Can you give us some examples of that?
    - Who is working on this game? Who did the concept art, who's leading the art, programming, etc.?
    - Is E.Z. intended as a subtle parody on sci-fi action heroes (Buck Rogers, James T. Kirk, etc.) This obviously needs rephrasing but you know what I mean.
    - Will there be different difficulty settings?
    - Why are E.Z.'s pants now green instead of blue?
    - Describe IRIS' role in the game?
    - Are the cutscenes in the game pre-rendered movies or in-game?

    erm... that's it
  • Kingzjester on 20 Dec, 2002, 13:09…
For the love of Santa Claus, man! Where is your common decency!? What the hell does the colour of a computer character's pants have to do with anything!? Some people just...
  • The_Petrified_Monkey on 21 Dec, 2002, 02:05…
Well, it seems to be if you put in as many "mundane" questions as you can then at least one will be asked and you can feel quite the proud person.

Unless someone actually cares about the trousers... I would ask something more about the detail of the graphics. Any bump-mapping? This was missing in the Clone Wars and Bounty Hunter...

Cam anyone remember when Lucasarts graphics led the field...? Well, at least Sony Online seems to be bolstering the graphics if the games aren't going to stand up to much... (rant, rant, rant...)
  • The_Petrified_Monkey on 21 Dec, 2002, 12:13…
Please ignore my previous post here...

I apologise if I have offended anyone but I had a bad morning and took to the internet to make myself feel better.

However, the graphics point stands. Thank you for your time :o)
  • BooJaka on 24 Dec, 2002, 09:53…
You gotta wonder though. Why *did* they change his trousers?
  • ZeroXcape on 20 Dec, 2002, 06:05…
How has the production of RTX inspired and/or altered the life of the people creating it? Can anyone now fly? If so, how?
  • Kingzjester on 19 Dec, 2002, 19:12…
    Q) Dr. Pepper or Sgt. Pepper?

I don't know where that came from, but I am dying to find out his preference.
  • The_Petrified_Monkey on 20 Dec, 2002, 11:53…
    Ditto
  • Remi O on 19 Dec, 2002, 10:07…
While I'm sure the game won't use iMuse, ask him if they will implement a system like it to make the music kinda interactive. Also, who's doing the music on this one?
  • JBRAA on 20 Dec, 2002, 04:52…
    great question!
  • The_Petrified_Monkey on 21 Dec, 2002, 10:15…
Differing to my purile nature with other posts, i agree with this... Maybe Clint Bajakian is being paid by t'Arts for the benefit of using it...

He'll probably still be along for the ride with things like Sam & Max, would you not think...? I'm mean, look at Indy...

But then again, Peter McConnell did it as well... I'm sure something will appear!
  • twifkak on 19 Dec, 2002, 05:28…
Do you think the market's ready blah blah adventurey LucasArts original blah blah nevermind stupid.

    I got nothin'.

Ask him when The Dig 2 is coming out! And will it take place completely in Space-Time 6? That would be cool. There wouldn't really be any puzzles, per se. You'd just have to think really hard. Or something.

Also, maybe he has some cool pics of vomiting pumpkins?
  • JBRAA on 20 Dec, 2002, 04:51…
    hee hee!
  • The_Petrified_Monkey on 18 Dec, 2002, 17:42…
I would ask him something along the lines of:

Due to your previous involvement in numerous adventure games, how do you feel these may have influenced you in the implementation of ideas into RTX and to what extent is there a truly "adventure" feel to this game?

This is kinda what people have already said but I thought I'd make mine sound a bit more intellectual! LOL

Oh, and if anyone's feeling brave enough, ask him how he feels about the FOA2 project. Does he condone the actions or is he at all interested in how the property he first worked on is being expanded in the fan universe?

Right, I'll leave it at that.
  • Scummbuddy on 18 Dec, 2002, 20:44…
No, don't tell them. mods would hate that. Even though getting a cease and desist letter would be kinda cool...
  • Jake on 20 Dec, 2002, 15:04…
Pretty na?ve (or however you spell it) of you to think that at least someone at LEC doesn't know about FOA2.
  • Kingzjester on 20 Dec, 2002, 19:48…
Still, should you poke the eye of a wolf who has chosen to ignore you?
  • The_Petrified_Monkey on 21 Dec, 2002, 02:03…
Just because George Lucas's lawyers has the whips and chains out, doesn't mean that Hal will be completely brainwashed into their corporate tones...

There is still some hope for him. But as the lawyers will probably be standing around at the interview saying "you don't have to answer that. the company line is we've considered it and it does seem a possibility in the future faff faff faff..."

Maybe we could smuggle Hal to an unknown location and indoctrinate him back to the ways of yonder years...

Okay, stick a fork in me! I'm done... :-)
  • The_Petrified_Monkey on 20 Dec, 2002, 11:52…
Okay, good point! Me bad... It would be just nice to see his perspective rather than the Company's one... But then again, everything he says will already have been vetted a hundred times over, sadly...

Such is the way of the media these days... :-) (a cinical newspaper reading Brit...)
  • Infinity on 18 Dec, 2002, 12:48…
What is your opinion on the current situation of the adventure game genre? Do you think adventure games will ever make a comeback?
  • Scummbuddy on 18 Dec, 2002, 11:44…
Will there be any references to other games (i.e. Zak McKraken) in this game? Any Broom Aliens? Will we see the VW bus in the background of a scene in this game? Do you even know what Zak McKraken is? :P
  • QueZTone on 19 Dec, 2002, 02:14…
IF there's a fridge, im sure there'll be an egg in it =]
  • Kingzjester on 19 Dec, 2002, 19:04…
Will we see any friendly hostels or DC metro-look-a-like trams? Any giant tweezer lodged into pyramids? Corpses of certain Stanford students?
  • Lucasmad on 18 Dec, 2002, 10:26…
    Q) What will most appeal to adventure fans about RTX Red Rock? Is it an even mix of action and adventure or is it more one genre than the other?
  • Kingzjester on 18 Dec, 2002, 10:10…
This is just a stupid little question (but hey, how many questions about a computer game are of cosmic importance?):

We hear (I don't know from where) that IRIS the foxy robot is in love with EZ Wheeler, all the while our hero's middle name is Zeno ? was that clandestine bit of irony intentional? An amorous robot, something commonly cold and unaffectionate, versus the guy named after a Stoic philosopher?

  • twifkak on 19 Dec, 2002, 05:17…
    You just won't quit ;)
  • Kingzjester on 19 Dec, 2002, 11:01…
    NEVA'!
  • Marek on 18 Dec, 2002, 10:07…
Q: Will we get to see Mars colonists in the game who survived the alien attacks?
  • QueZTone on 18 Dec, 2002, 08:03…
are there, apart from the fem-bot, gonna be any sexy females in the game? :P
  • Sopabuena on 18 Dec, 2002, 07:49…
I want to know if the game Anachronox "inspired" RTX in some way.
(the whole Iris = Fatima thing and the sci-fi theme)
Also, if the game does well in consoles, can we expect a PC version?
And what about the puzzles, will they include inventory use and character interaction or will they be the kind of puzzles where you have to jump over platforms and pull a lever.
  • The_Petrified_Monkey on 18 Dec, 2002, 17:43…
I agree with the "Anachronox" concept. The two games are similar in ideas...
  • BooJaka on 18 Dec, 2002, 08:31…
    I second the PC motion
