Rightly fearful of a world where Escape from Monkey Island magazine coverage gets lost to the Mysts o'Tyme, our own Scummbuddy blew the dust bunnies off the scanner and preserved the feature story that graced the Sept. 2000 issue of Computer Games Magazine.
You may already be familiar with the cover of this issue, as it’s been universally acknowledged since the game came out to be objectively superior to the actual box art the geniuses in Marketing saw fit to approve in the end, but the preview itself by Cindy Yans is some proper journalism, and the pre-release quotes from Mike Stemmle and Sean Clark will take you back to those innocent, anticipatory days when we thought we had another classic coming our way. (Footnote: And we were right. Don’t want to hear it.)
For no added charge, Scummbuddy also threw in this one-page review that appeared in Playstation Magazine.
It’s just the sort of primo content that keeps our Media section winning all those consecutive internal awards that we keep inventing.

I remember when this issue came out—I was around 12 years old. I vividly recall dragging my grandmother around to every magazine store in search of a copy. I remember that image of Guybrush standing out to me, looking up from the Melee Island docks. I kept thinking I was missing some hidden area on the map where I could see that scene.
Looking back, I’m pretty sure I only knew about the issue because of either MixnMojo or the Scumm Bar, so good on you all.
Ah yeah, that area was accessible only in the demo.
Shame, too, because the demo uses recycled CMI tracks, and the Michael Land cue intended for that area is pretty great. You do get to hear the first few seconds in the released game, when Elaine and Guybrush disembark from the honeymoon ship. As soon as the FMV ends, the cutscene continues in-engine with the two of them briefly walking through the docks background, but it cuts off pretty quick.
Oh neat - thanks for sharing!
