Star Wars LEGO demo 11 Mar, 2005 / Comments: 8

If you can handle a 227MB download, and want to see a rather different take on the Star Wars Universe, you could do worse than grabbing a copy of the PC Demo (featuring the whole first level) of the forthcoming Star Wars LEGO platformer.

It's up at Yahoo already and probably at the other usual places in the very near future.

The full game's released on PC, Xbox, PS2 and GBA next month.

    Fatal Error!
"Sorry, but your machine is unable to run this game.
We require a graphics card which supports vertex and pixel shader v1.1.
    The game will now exit."

I downloaded 227 Megabytes for that?

Ya, I got the same error. Stupid graphics card.

AND the uninstaller left the shortcut on my desktop.
All this has somewhat put me off buying the full version.

Downloading now. It's easy to be cynical about anything Star Wars these days, but I have to be honest, the magazine previews and the trailer have got me quite excited and hopeful about this game.

Essentially, it is for kids, but I love Lego, and I love Star Wars. Well, I love the *idea* of Star Wars, maybe not the recent execution of it.

If I do get it, I'll have to stop once I get to the Episode III levels, the game comes out a few weeks before the film and so has spoiler possibilities.

Anyway, I think it could be much fun, but the demo will reveal all. 14%...

Played the demo. Entertaining, but not that exciting. Without the starwars/lego brands, not much happening here.

I think the cut-scenes are very neat and the whole Lego construction of the world is done well.

As for actual gameplay, some of the puzzling, more once you unlock Free Play and look for all the containers, is a little bit more interesting than hacking up the droids, but I still hope the full game is less one-note. The differently useful abilities of all the characters in the demo level bodes well I guess, and I think there's racing/flying mini-game type things too.

I'll be getting it, though of course Psychonauts will be the priority next month!
