Schafer and Kotick, sitting in a tree 27 Sep, 2010 / 8 comments

Move over, Lindsay Lohan: British tabloid gaming website Eurogamer.net are reporting that Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has responded to Tim Schafer's insult to him from earlier this year; this, in turn, made Schafer comment back.

Rumours that the story would appear on tomorrow's edition of The Sun are yet to be confirmed.

This all comes a few hours after it was announced that Ron "Monkey Island slash Deathspank creator" Gilbert would be joining Double Fine to work on a yet unannounced game.

Gentlemen, let's not overlook the true phenomenon that's at play in all of this:

Namely, that it was EA Games (of all people) who actually came out looking like the sensible party, in comparison. And that they had the infinitely superior soundbyte:

And so while reporting that a small industry guy has been needlessly insulting/insulted by a big industry rival, Mixnmojo, as a small video games news website now choose to needlessly insult a big video games news rival in practically the same vein.

    How mature.

At least we can safely assume Eurogamer, unlike Kotick, is sensible enough to not care and not pay any attention to such remarks.

Nah, I love Eurogamer. Theirs is one of the few sites I check regularly. They've drawn fire - and not just from me - for stretching this story out a little too much. Just check the comments on the articles I linked to.

Besides, Mojo against Eurogamer would be like, I don't know, an ant fighting a rhino. Or 300 Spartans fighting a million Persians. Whichever way you look at it.

Mojo and Eurogamer are rivals? Please, our obnoxious cynicism is way more adorable than their brand. Apples and oranges!

More to the point, I distinctly remember a spokesperson during the whole lawsuit thing saying that they had every intention of exercising their right to release Brutal Legend, and these comments catch them out in a big, fat lie.

What a harsher. Good thing I haven't bought an Activision game for 2 years.

Seems to me that everybody connected to Activision -- be it developers of their biggest hits or smaller niche titles -- are backstabbing scum, all out to get Kotick.

Or at least that's how it is according to Kotick.

Which makes him sound like something close to a paranoid sociopat.

    What a prick.
