Sam & Max relaunches 11 Apr, 2020 / 19 comments

No no, not the game, nor Unofficial… -- though we’re sure it’s right behind -- but Sam & Max.co.uk. They have a new design and content (allegedly), not to mention forums. It's all delicately old school, so check 'em out.

Who knows, maybe we will get out forums back one day? (Zaarin)

    PHP has gotten a lot better since the release of 7. JS on the other hand... *shudders*


    Truth be told, ECMAScript6 managed to simplify things and make them even elegant in some cases, even though it's pretty much syntactic sugar most of the time. But I'm done with front-end development, came back to good old C++ development and not looking back.

    What we're looking at is a new forum, with maaaaaybe an import of the Mojo side of Lucasforums. No promises there as Lucasforums was filled with mods and customizations.

    If I hadn't just had to take a pay cut because of the Coronavirus, I'd actually consider just getting some forums up and running again out of my own pocket -- asking for donations if hosting got too expensive. It's super easy to get forums running these days. (I'd probably go for Discourse.) Yes, we'd lose to the archive, but that's OK isn't it?

    The forums were on a really old FreeBSD server that kept chugging along on a combination of PHP 4 and misc. voodoo ingredients. We may be able to get a static copy online some day, but that's a huge task.

    Speaking of LucasForums, I've happened to been on them all day (through archive.org) and unfortunately there are about 8 pages of the 39 for Mixnmojo General discussion that appear to be lost to time, not to mention that not every page/thread itself is accessible. I've been trying to capture a few important threads for historic purposes but some good ones are lost as far as I can tell.

    I did also come across an RSS-eater site that just scooped up RSS feeds across the internet which could at least give us the content of each threads first post, but it's a pain to search through and it has a million Star Wars posts from the other side of LucasForums intermixed.
