Ron meets up 18 Aug, 2005 / Comments: 15

Did you know that Ron Gilbert loves flying and until recently owned his own plane? Well neither did I until I picked up issue 159 of everyone's favourite UK based Gaming Magazine PC Zone! Seems like the Zone gang met up with His Glory Upon High and interrogated him about what he's currently doing. Here's a quote:

"Having Tim Schafer and Dave Grossman on [Monkey Island 1] - which was just sheer luck - helped enormously, as they're fabulous writers. I had a miniature half-size pool table in my office and the three of us would just play pool for hours, coming up with puzzles, working out the plot points and laughing ourselves silly".

You can read the rest in the scans here, and if you're British then be sure to also pick up a copy of the mag for more top quality games journalism!

I think I'd be less disturbed by a GrumpyGamer icon, rather than a decapitated Ron Gilbert one to tag these stories with.

I always liked PC Gamer better, but I supose I might check out PC Zone, I got some money spare.

They just did a redesign... I think they're more PC Gamerish now, except without the sucky parts.

    A comedy RPG/RTS?

Can anyone say Pirates? Or Monkeys? Or Pirate Monkeys?

I'd like to say that your news are quite disturbing and seems delivers false informations.
    Like your stating
"[PCZone] interrogated him about what he's currently doing. Here's a quote: 'Having Tim Schafer and Dave Grossman on the project -'" sounds like Schafer and Grossman are working on his current project. Which is not what is said in the article.
And in the past news, you've cut the quote of Gilbert about that shit thing just before he said he realized he was completely wrong. That could be qualified as him being misquoted.

But hell, I'm not really saying anything.

What are you, the journalism police!?
  • guybrushthedwarf on 18 Aug, 2005, 17:14…
and if that's the case ? mmmm?!
It's just that's Mixnmojo has kinda reputation... hasn't it ?

I don't think journalistic integrity has ever been a high priority at Mojo.
  • Gabez on 18 Aug, 2005, 17:40…
It's certainly never been a priority for the Gabzo! :D

Seriously, I hate online games journalists who take themselves too seriously. I mean, this isn't reallt writing. Even proper journalism isn't really writing. We're just regugitating news and probably reviewing games we haven't even played. It's all one big joke!

    But still keep visiting please.

Mmm, but it's not about being serious... it's about delivering correct pieces of information. The way you're delivering them are a totally different matter; I mean, I like the way you introduce news but that's not the point.
  • Gabez on 18 Aug, 2005, 18:33…
Actually, no, you're right, we shouldn't mislead... which is why I reworded the quote so that people don't get the wrong idea. And as for the previous news article, well... it's really just a story about swearing in the game, and yes in the interveiew he reflects on that and says that he was making a deal over nothing, but really I just quoted a story.

Also I don't really care if people think Ron Gilbert wanted to put shit in Maniac Mansion or not. :P

But thanks for pointing this out.

His own plane. Such a playboy. :~
  • Gabez on 18 Aug, 2005, 15:49…
Hee, and I love the way he's all "I can't afford to buy Monkey Island back plz send me money and a car"

What are the rights worth these days, anyway? 50 pence? :~

And he's self-publishing his game! I wonder who his investors are... they obviously didn't want to invest in Monkey Island!

You gotta love this bit: "[Ron spends his time] meeting up at Monkey Island fan conventions around the world".

And I hear that Tim Schafer is making progress on those Star Wars games. ?
