Resource snooping yields evidence of SCUMM iPod releases? 08 Jul, 2009 / Comments: 4
There are apparently some people who would like to see LEC port their SCUMM games to the iPod. The last time LEC was confronted on the issue, their response was of the "can't confirm or deny" variety. Well, in sniffing around under the hood of his newly purchased copy of Last Crusade on Steam, resident resource file ravager bgbennyboy found the following string inside the game's executable:
c:HeritageSCUMMiPodSCUMMTechRetailIndyCrusadeIndyCrusade_Retail.pdb
Well now.
c:\Heritage\SCUMM\iPod\SCUMMTech\Indy Retail\IndyMonkey.pdb
a) at some point some source code (or whatever) was taken away on an iPod. When bringing back into the studio, it was dumped in a folder called 'iPod' I do this for some of my design work. In this instance, it had been worked in and forgotten about.
b) Which I think is more likely, is it has been put there intentionally. Apple's iPod touch/iPhone NDA doesn't allow you to discuss any apps in development until release. Knowing this, and the amount of hype Lucasarts have been drumming up for SOMI:SE and the announcement on Monday, they had to try build up hype somehow.
Along with a quote from Joystiq's interview with Darrel Rodriguez:
When asked about the possibility of portable ports, notably the iPhone or PSP Go, Rodriguez noted, "On iPhone, you know Apple's policy that we can't talk about a release until it's ready to release. But it would make sense that we would do something like that if we were to go in that direction ... wink wink, nod, nod."
But still, what could it all mean?!
