Radical! A New RTX Red Rock Preview 23 Aug, 2002 / Comments: 2

The Electric Playground has a new preview up of LucasArts' upcoming 3rd person action/adventure RTX Red Rock. Created by Fate of Atlantis and Big Sky Troopers designer Hal Barwood, RTX Red Rock stars "radical tactics expert" and all around nice guy Eugene Zeno Wheeler (aka EZ Wheeler), who is sent out to uncover what caused Earth's Mars colony to suddenly fall silent.

"I have to hand it to LucasArts--RTX Red Rock's futuristic setting is very complete and convincing (according to LucasArts, the game was in part influenced by one of its older scifi adventure titles--The Dig. The graphics are only part of it, the game looks like a coherent scifi world." Cool beans. Now, EZ wheel yourself on over and take a look.

I'm really going to be interested in playing this game. I only hope the controls are more fun than Hal Barwood's Infernal Machine.

Needless to say, all of you have noticed that EZ Wheeler's middle name is Zeno -- that of course is an allusion to the founder of the Stoic school of philosophy, and has nothing to do with the fact that it is the only name they could think of that started with a Z -- rather, the reference is there to give extra flavor to Wheeler's brutality to aliens and lack of concern for the love of his female robot companion. The irony of this situation is quite charming: a robot (a species commonly regarded by the mainstream as unemotional and cold) loves a man (a species that exclaims exclusive rights over all emotion) who is a stoic.

    Intellectual prick, signing off.
