RTX Red Rock: New Pants, New Interview 09 Jan, 2003 / Comments: 22

Reeve Thompson, producer of Hal Barwood's RTX Red Rock, fields questions from the Mixnmojo community in our new interview. Here, Reeve answers questions about the story, the gameplay, the characters, and why E.Z. Wheeler's pants are now a different color. Fascinating, eh? Check it out!

I am disappointed in your pompousness to cut out the question that interested me. God forbid you should ask an odd (if not humorous) question of someone working on something as important to the wellbeing of cosmos as a computer game. Hail to constipated professionalism!

It seems his granddad?s name is Augustus, eh? Another allusion to ancient Greco-Roman history?
    No.
    Why not?
No, shut up; you are not supposed to think that, let alone ask. Taboo!

Hey Kingzjester, I think I have one more answer in me for you...

Yes, there are a few Greco-Roman references in RTX Red Rock. Hal's a bit of a nut about Greco-Roman history, so from time to time this influence sneaks it's way into the design. Wheeler's middle name Zeno is actually his great-grandmother's maiden last name, and she was Greek (yes, we've done a very detailed back story on Wheeler).

It also turns out she was a bit of a psychic, and was therefore kind of a black sheep in the family. Perhaps some of this psychic ability was passed on to Wheeler and might explain some of the more supernatural aspects of the game... but you'll have to wait to play to make those connections for yourself! :)

Oh, and I'm glad all of you enjoyed the interview. Thanks for the great questions! I'd love to do a follow up at some point down the line!

    Thank you.

To Mojo: There, you see, the man was more than happy to answer my question. Why do people always assume a priori that I am full of it when I don't even know what it is.

Calm down. You'll have other chances to ask questions in other interviews, but we never made any guarantees.

But in regard to some of your other submissions, an odd question and an interesting question are not necessarily the same thing.

I was a bit interested in that Eugene Zeno question... :P
  • telarium on 10 Jan, 2003, 21:04…
Well that's why I said "other questions". I actually did have that question in the next-to-final draft of the interview questions... I can't remember why I ended up cutting it out.
