Quick & Easy Gets Quicker, Easier 27 Dec, 2003, 19:01 / 16 comments

Bgbennyboy's Quick & Easy toolset has been given an overhaul. The original "LEC Quick & Easy" program has been discontinued due to becoming too bloated and pointless. It's now been split into two smaller programs, "ScummVM Quick & Easy," and "VdmSound Quick & Easy." More details about the change can be found at the Q&E website.

Also new to the site are two handy utilities: "Resource File Creator and Dumper," for extracting, modifying, and re-inserting data from data files (like this), and "Index File Reader", a tool that does something or other I'm not sure of. If any of this sounds confusing it's simply because I've explained it poorly. Visit the Q&E website for clarity and enlightenment.

Site updated with source code for all the programs.

Hmmm, it'd be nice to be able to arrange or filter the games list ourselves. Also the little "%" icons are wrong (Flight of the Amazon Queen says 5% but on the ScummVM website it is 75% for example (they're mostly wrong)).

    Otherwise, nice work BG!

Remember that the ScummVM website's compatibility chart is for the version in CVS, not the stable release.

Hmmm, but Flight of the Amazon Queen isn't even in the stable release?? Confused!

I released the current version inbetween stable releases because all the command lines changed, so the icons were up-to-date as of 30/10/03 when I released it.

It'd still be nice to be able to filter/order the games list ourselves -- even if we got to edit the .ini or something. Is that possible?
  • bgbennyboy on 29 Dec, 2003, 15:35…
    Exactly, and I cant keep updating the program just to update the compatibility list ;

I could probably do it with an ini and then just update the ini every so often but..feh I cant be bothered.

Parse it off scummvm.org's compatibility page! You know you want to.
  • tabacco on 30 Dec, 2003, 00:38…
Heck, they'll probably make you an XML feed or something if you ask them.
  • bgbennyboy on 30 Dec, 2003, 07:28…
Cuss you guys and your reasonableness! Sadly an xml feed isnt an option right now. The real secret is that I could add compatibility updates, but i'd then have to keep updating the damm ini myself and it takes so long!

Ah, AH! I've an idea, i'll add it in if there's some nutter community-minded person out there who wants to check through 90 games every few weeks and update the compatibility.

Its always good to have feedback and feature requests though, cheers guys.

Should someone document me some Boot Params though i'll do anything you want, anything.

I might be willing to do it for DOTT, but what kind of documentation do you want?
  • bgbennyboy on 30 Dec, 2003, 09:55…
Just a note of where each number takes you to in the game.

If you select either mi1,cmi or full throttle in q+e + look under bootparam you'll see the sort of thing I mean.
  • Moosferatu on 30 Dec, 2003, 10:01…
Ok, sounds good. I'll work on it when I have a chance. Since I haven't felt like doing anything that I'm supposed to be working on for the past few weeks, I'll probably be able to find some time. Hmm... I really should start working again... Where has my motivation gone?
  • bgbennyboy on 30 Dec, 2003, 10:09…
That would be fantastic! here is a build of Q+E with the undocumented boot params included (so you dont need to type the number in each time). Any that you can do would be really really good :)
  • Moosferatu on 30 Dec, 2003, 10:35…
That doesn't have all of the numbers that are in the txt file you posted. As far as I can see it is missing the numbers in the 100s. Do you not want those done? Also, I radomly put in a few numbers that aren't on the list, like 90, and it did load something. 90 was the scene where the sluge-o-matic was putting out pure water and there were buterflies flying around. Is it not listed because it isn't an actual room?
  • bgbennyboy on 30 Dec, 2003, 10:50…
Ah, meh you're right I missed some out.
I've added the missing ones and re-uploaded the program.

All the numbers listed are those listed in the boot scripts to the games, other numbers do seem to work but most of the time they dont actually take you to a part of the game where you can carry on playing, so its best just to do the ones in the list :)
