Poetry for Guys? Eh? Oh, it's by Dave Grossman! 25 Oct, 2002, 00:17 / 13 comments

Finally a new review! Dave Grossman, co-writer of Monkey Island 1 and 2, co-designer of Day of the Tentacle, and author of numerous childrens books and adventure games for Ron Gilbert's Humongous Entertainment, has written a book!

The book? Ode to the Stuff in the Sink: a book of guy poetry. Is it good? Well, here's a hint: one of the poems is titled ?Is That Your Shirt Or Did A Clown Throw Up On You?" You must buy this book today! No, first read the review, then buy the book.

I'd love to read this book!

I'm afraid it's going to be a big hazzle to get it to Denmark seen as I can't have PayPal and Denmark != USA or Canada though.
    I might try anyway though.

I wonder if the title is a reference to the Hitch Hiker's Guide. Poet Master Grunthos the Flatulent's "Ode to a Lump of Green Putty I Found Under My Armpit One Midsummer Morning" sounds somewhat similar.

Yeah I was thinking somewhere along the same line.

I think they're both references to poetry. ?

I wonder who's his publisher... Only available over his website, eh? If this is some sort of a Samizdat that must've been expensive... Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is a sort of a novelty poetry collection? As much as I enjoyed the early MI games and Dott, this doesn't appeal to me. I already have Dante and Goethe and Virgil and Ovid and a shitload of Victorian poets on my shelf and littered through my littered little house, so an extra book of poetry wouldn't raise my depth of character (or is it lower, seeing how it is depth I'm refering to?) if anything, a macho book of poetry would work the other way, breaking my image of a pseudointellectual shut-in... hmm... A book of poetry I haven't even read has just depressed me...

...one possibility: there are such things like "print-on-demand" or "book-on-demand" ... special publishers save your book digitally and print some 50 pieces of it whenever you need it ... good quality and low price - you -as the author- can sell it to whatever price you want so you can make some money too. these publishers can print single books aswell- when you write a book about yourself and want to make it available worldwide, just get it to that publisher and he'll save it - you pay him to keep it for 5 years and i'm sure he'll give you a copy on cd ... when some dude wants your book in 3 years he can order it for a cool price at the publisher - when he wants it in ten years, he'll contact you - you go with your cd to the printer dude and get your book.

i saw a documentation about such thingy - i believe it was located in hamburg and i loved the concept ... i guess there have to be some of these publishers worldwide.

Its not meant to raise (or lower or whatever) your depth of character you ... you. It's meant to make you laugh a lot, or at least nod and say to yourself "ahh, that."
