Podcast heaven! 15 Jul, 2009, 19:52 / 24 comments

Mojo is again casting pods in your face! This time the participants are Jason, SurplusGamer, Tingler, and from time to time me as I may or may not have drunk too much wine to be able to keep up.

Now, go pod your ears off.

Additional note by Tingler: The topic is Tales of Monkey Island Chapter 1, so if you haven't played that yet DO SO. Good, now you can listen without fear of spoilers. We also discuss the recent Steam releases and what we'd like to see.

Oh, and I apologise for occasionally making your ears bleed.

Can I volunteer to make you guys an RSS feed and plug it into iTunes?
  • SurplusGamer on 16 Jul, 2009, 08:20…
I think this sort of thing is being discussed at the moment behind the scenes, so we'll have to see. Thanks, though!

The Mojo podcast: the perfect way of killing time when dowloading SMI-SE ;)
  • koosjebig on 16 Jul, 2009, 00:41…
I played through the whole game without even noticing the 'mouse-only' controlling option. Using the cursors to move guybrush worked just fine.. :P
I only found out after reading the reviews.
  • QueZTone on 16 Jul, 2009, 10:12…
    same here..

i instinctively went for the keyboard to walk and the mouse to interact..

i can't even understand one wouldn't attempt to use the keyboard.. oh well

During the 'tutorial' bit at the beginning, the game's instructions make no mention of any other control method, just the mouse version.

Wallace & Gromit players are probably used to the keyboard/mouse version, but new players won't know about it.

This is THE major control issue in my mind. I was fine, but I know someone who almost stopped playing because they couldn't use the mouse only controls properly and didn't know the alternative.
  • neon_git on 16 Jul, 2009, 15:55…
I know it's getting a lot of hate, but I actually prefer the mouse only control scheme. It took me most of the episode to get into the groove but by the end I was zipping all over the place no problem.

Give it a fair go guys, it's far superior to the keyboard control in my opinion.
  • SurplusGamer on 16 Jul, 2009, 18:00…
Fair enough and I certainly don't think they should -remove- it... though maybe it needs some tinkering with. I even used it once in a while, when I had a drink in my hand or something.

But I do think I'll always prefer the dual controls.
  • The Tingler on 16 Jul, 2009, 16:53…
Yeah, there's plenty of people who prefer it (you and jp-30 to name two), but we just wish Telltale had made it clear there was an alternative.

(psst - what's the podcast about, Zaarin?) :p
  • Zaarin on 15 Jul, 2009, 22:07…
Heh, I didn't notice Idle Thumbs have a sentence similar to the first in my news post on their site.
  • Narrative on 15 Jul, 2009, 21:36…
    Good stuff.
  • Izzy on 15 Jul, 2009, 21:12…
Great podcast guys keep it up!
  • Huz on 15 Jul, 2009, 20:58…
Now that I'm an official iTunes-using snob, I insist that you set it up so I can automagically download new episodes.

    Insist!!
  • Huz on 15 Jul, 2009, 21:10…
At least put some metadata into your MP3, jeeze. :)

Sorry to be a demanding child.
  • telarium on 15 Jul, 2009, 20:48…
Thanks for having an intelligent discussion about the controls!
  • Jake on 15 Jul, 2009, 20:38…
    Nice!

A note: Tingler -- you're not allowed back again until you can keep your microphone from clipping so much that my headphones start to break.
  • custard on 15 Jul, 2009, 20:59…
    Ouch, yes.
  • neon_git on 15 Jul, 2009, 21:03…
    I concur.
  • elTee on 15 Jul, 2009, 21:12…
    Carried.
  • Huz on 15 Jul, 2009, 21:36…
Will undoubtedly agree when I fall back on my pillow after listening, my ears bleeding and my head ravaged by tinnitus.

You know what your podcast needs to elevate it to a higher plane? Police sirens in the background.
  • The Tingler on 15 Jul, 2009, 22:34…
Did it do that last podcast?
  • The Tingler on 15 Jul, 2009, 22:44…
Dammit, I see what you mean. In an effort to eliminate the artifacts last time I plugged the microphone in directly, and obviously the volume was too high. Will fix next time... hopefully you'll all still have the power of hearing by then.
