New Indy game delayed until next year 15 Feb, 2007 / Comments: 16

I was checking out the newfangled LucasArts site and got to reading through the "About LucasArts" page. Check out this portion:
In 2008, Indiana Jones whips back into gaming. The completely original, film-quality story told with direction from George Lucas pits the man in the fedora in an epic story of biblical proportions.
No doubt this is so that it can coincide with the new film, which is slated to release on May 22 of the same year.

So much for Jim Ward promising his games wouldn't slip.

He actually said Games should be tied to other related marketing events. His issue with Superman slipping was that it missed the movie launch and couldn't leverage off the publicity. The 2 Star Wars Battlefront games have leveraged off Star Wars DVD releases and become LucasArts two biggest sellers ever.

And didn't LEGO Star Wars 2 coincide with a Star Wars DVD release too?

It is absolutely no surprise that the IJ game launch was moved back to leverage off the publicity (that will be) generated by the new IJ movie. It's a proven marketing strategy winner.

It's definitely not a bizarre move on LucasArts' part. The reason I wasn't expecting it was because they established a 2007 release date for the game knowing that it wouldn't coincide with movie, which at the time didn't even have a script and still could easily have simply not happened. I figured that at that point they'd resolved to release the game without the promotional push of a movie. But I guess when it became clear that Indy 4 was actually going to become a reality, it made no sense to not take advantage of it.

There's also, I guess, the possibility that the game itself was delayed, but it seems far less likely. An extra year of development surely won't hurt it though, assuming they don't just put it on the side after meeting the original schedule.

You were on the LucasArts site?

    Why?
  • jp-30 on 16 Feb, 2007, 10:07…
Because we've moved on from "LucaArts is the Devil", and are now interested in seeing what they can produce to stay relevant in today's marketplace.

Its great to see a company not release a finished game thats supposed to have nothing to do with the new movie until the new movie comes out.

    Awsome.

Finished game? It was slated for a 2007 release and we're only 6 weeks in. And it is supposed to have some tie-in with the new movie (even though they're set decades apart).

I guess now they can do the "clips from the movie integrated into the game" idea.

Hopefully they take advantage of that extra year by making the story and the characters as impressive as the physics engine.

I thought I was the one that pointed out that the physics engine when seen in game was reported to make Indy look like a "retarded marionette".

So I hope the game is a little more impressive than that...

Also about the other coment about the game being finished, I didnt mean it was finished now and they werent releasing it, I was just going by the fact that they thought it was going to be done by 07 before, now because of the movie its 08...So...you get my point...

No one is even going to scroll down and read these comments....

    *sigh*

If you continue to lurk around, you can see that all the old mini-sites are gone (ie Jedi Knight, MotS, Rebel Assault II, CMI) that are pre-EMI

That's sad, there were some cool resources in those old game sites. Ahh well, thay're still viewable via www.archive.org, I guess.
