Monkey Island 2: Special Edition release details for iDevices (out now down under!) 06 Jul, 2010 / 14 comments

Here we go then:

Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck's Revenge out now in New Zealand for iPhone and iPad.

It's out in the UK at midnight, and it's likely to cost £5.99 / $9.99 on iPad and £4.99 / $7.99 on iPhone.

Thanks, Pocket Gamer.

Update: The game should be available from 9am GMT - that's in about 11 hours from now - but LucasArts tell us 'things go live when they go live' - so no promises!

And again: Live on the US PSN store, as well as a free demo. Download now! More to come in the morning....

Can someone confirm if the iPhone version is the "easy" version of the game?

You could get rid of the weird pauses in MI1:SE very easily by going into classic mode, pressing + a few times so text speed is at the fastest setting and going back to new mode.

There are no + and - keys on the phone ;)

It seems that they also left out the opening credits (I have the iPod-Version)
Other than that, what I very much like the pace of the spoken dialogue, sounds very fluent now. The weird pauses between sentences (from MI1:SE) are gone!

It's amazing how much more playable the game is when you do that. Of course, it should have been at that setting by default, which seems to be the case with the second game.

However, this version lacks the art gallery and the commentary, which is something of a blow (the iPad version has these features).

The iPhone version is very nice, much better than the first one. The control scheme is great and the graphics are nice and smooth (characters were pixelated in iMonkey 1).

However, this version lacks the art gallery and the commentary, which is something of a blow (the iPad version has these features). Also, just like in the original, the classic mode is stretched.

But other than that, the port is a major step up from the previous one - as well made as the iPhone versions of Revolution games when it comes to the interface and with updated visuals and sound to boot. Fantastic job!

Why aren't there any reviews up yet? Surely the embargo's lifted since the PS3 version comes out today.

    The PS3 version isn't live yet :)

I am pre-loading, 'voorladen' in Dutch, the game on Steam right now.
Does that mean I still have to wait when it's done downloading, even if I have the game on my PC?

    Yeah, you do. I guess that's why it's called a pre-load XD.

"Down Under" pretty much refers to Australia, not NZ. At least that's the case here.

You're right, I apologise. I had it in my head that it was the whole antipodes :~
