Mojo Video of the Week 09 Oct, 2011 / 9 comments

The Mojo Video of the Week is being placed in retirement for the time being while we negotiate for more hard drive space. After uploading about a hundred videos a few months back we've had to stop because we're apparently seven kilobytes away from taking the site down. Anyway, look for the random Sunday picks to return once we're in a position to grow the collection.

For today, enjoy the suspect font choices of this Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island trailer:

There's also a lot to be said for having all the videos in one ordered area of the web-site. If we linked to Youtube videos we'd have no guarantee that they would not be taken down, the URLs changed, etc. It would also turn Mojo from an archiving resource into a mere link factory. Though we do also have a Mojo Youtube channel if you're interested: http://www.youtube.com/houseofmojo.

Youtube? It'll never last! We've been around since the NINETIES, and it's not the 1990s I'm talking about there... you'll all be watching Tim Schafer blow his nose in a variety of pointless formats in a thousand years time, long after Youtube has gone the way of the dodo! (Probably).

We could of course just embed Youtube videos every week, and the reality is that 95% of what we'd collect could be found on Youtube in decent enough quality in the first place. But we're attempting to build a media archive for Mojo (however slowly), and the Mojo Video of the Week was intended to highlight that. It's not an issue of, "If only there was some other source for these videos..."

That said, if there's really a thundering interest in us picking an LEC (and co.) related video off Youtube every week to put on the front page, it's not like I'd be allergic to the notion. Is that being requested?

Part of the point of the media pages was to also archive the original video files, which we can't do on Youtube.

more power to ya, it's not my site. It was just my opinion, I didn't think anyone that wants to watch an old internet advertisement video for a game would think "Man, this would be better if I could watch it with a 10 year old out dated codec, even though this smalle rmore internet friendly compressed version looks the same."

You guys pay the bills, to quote the 80s, it's your prerogative.

You could also try not uploading a hundred videos all at once to your server....Especially if youre only going to feature them on a semi weekly basis....

It's like you haven't bothered to click the media button at all.

You're right! But now that I have I can't tell what was added recently, and what wasn't. Was there an update for these hundred videos?

Also, still would have used YouTube. Especially for the older low resolution stuff. Hell, with YouTube and their semi HD ability, you could even get away with putting higher quality stuff...

AND...probably didn't need two versions of each video...but hey, who the hell am I to give advice? Nobody, that's who!

How about using YouTube for the videos?

    Agreed.

Hell most big websites still just link you to a shitty youtube video when it comes to content.

You guys dont have to try and look cool and not do it. Its the cool thing to do now.
