Lucasfilm Games is back 19 Mar, 2019 / 10 comments

Disney may be resurrecting Lucasfilm Games, given the recent addition of several new high-level job positions on their recruitment website.

Assistant Producer (Lucasfilm Games)
Producer (Lucasfilm Games)
Assistant Producer (Lucasfilm Games - Asia)
Brand Art Coordinator (Lucasfilm Games)
Brand Marketing Coordinator (Lucasfilm Games)
Associate Brand Art Director (Lucasfilm Games)
Associate Brand Marketing Manager (Lucasfilm Games)

Whether this means EA will be losing their position as exclusive creator of Star Wars licensed games as some have speculated remains to be seen. We can only hope...

Why they would be using the historic LucasFilm Games name rather than LucasArts is another mystery. Speculation in the comments is welcomed.

They've been using the Lucasfilm Games name instead of LucasArts for several years now. They even stated that they weren't sure they'd continue the LucasArts brand when the deal went through. Their last use of LucasArts was way back when they published Star Wars: Tiny Death Star. Although, they even changed the publisher to Disney Interactive a year later before they pulled the game from the marketplace altogether.

http://www.lucasfilm.com/games had all references to LucasArts removed at about the same time the publisher for Tiny Death Star was changed to Disney Interactive. Plus, the developer info at GOG.com has always used Lucasfilm Games rather than LucasArts.

Of course, it IS a surprise they are hiring. I guess some of the less than 10 employees that stayed on with LucasArts when Disney purchased Lucasfilm have finally decided to move on.

somewhat due to Russian trolls (seriously)

Do you really give credence to that narrative? The backlash against The Last Jedi is genuine. There's more than enough evidence for it. This attempt to scapegoat it with a bad excuse like "Russian trolls" is laughable, and I'm surprised to see it being taken seriously here. It's a divisive movie, like many others before it, in an era where everyone and their mother can express their distaste or appreciation in more than one place. No need for far-fetched excuses.

Don't take your particular experiences in life as "more than enough evidence," even if, in this case, a look at the actual evidence would suggest you're right.

If I can base an entire news story on the sketchiest of evidence, I sure as hell can do the same in the comments. :p

It's just that I sometimes wish it would stop already. (I really don't like those movies, despite respecting the hell out of the making of for IV-VI.)

Kroms, yes, Disney's accountants know full well what they paid their $4 billion for.

I was kidding on that part.

    I don't think she's dead, not yet.

It's Star Wars. People are doomed to care from here until the collapse of the American empire.

My guess is that they’re planning *something*, but probably not a whole new games division. It’s probably people to deal with the IP they own. I think they also probably think that LucasFilm Games has more recognition than LucasArts these days — in the sense that it clearly states what it is.

Or it could be a whole other new division that has nothing to do with the LFG of yore. In fact, I’m kind of leaning toward that explanation.

I don't think there's really anything new about this -- LucasArts/LucasFilm Games or however they decide to brand themselves these days have always had producers for their IP, even when they're developed by outside entities (which, of course, has exclusively been the case for eons now). I'd assume the brand directors develop generic brands, and make sure developers adhere to them. (Kind of like how Telltale had to use the new MI logo for TMI.)

There is a current cartoon, one old cartoon coming back, the last of the sequel trilogy, a new trilogy, one - maybe two (or is it three?) live action TV shows coming...

Would Disney even know what LucasArts is/was?

Anyway, do people still care much for "Star Wars"? The brand's been, uh, tarnished, hasn't it? I haven't heard much about IX.
