LucasArts on the move! 16 Aug, 2001 / Comments: 9

The Associated Press is reporting that LucasArts will be moving its facility. Here is the full article:

Lucasfilm Ltd. has signed an agreement to build a 23-acre office and film production center at the Presidio, a former Army base. The company's plans call for a 900,000-square-foot campus for 2,500 workers. Officials with the Presidio Trust had been courting the film company for more than two years. Lucasfilm special effects and post-production company, Industrial Light & Magic, along with THX Group, LucasArts Entertainment Co., Lucas Online and the George Lucas Educational Fund, will all move to the Presidio location. The Lucasfilm companies will occupy the site of the Letterman Army Hospital after the 10-story building's demolition. The Presidio Trust must meet Congress' goal of becoming financially self-sufficient by 2013.

You can view artist renderings of the impressive facility at Lucasfilm.com. Congrats go to all of the Lucas companies; it looks like it will be one amazing place to work. Thanks to The SCUMM Bar for the news!

Check this out: http://www.canoe.ca/JamStarWars/jun15_lucas.html It's an article from June 15, 1999. This really has been known about for at least a year.

...probably not. note it says nothing about lucasfilm admininstration or skywalker sound moving -- they are the only 2 departments actually on the ranch. lucasarts, lucaslearning, ILM, etc are all off in various separate offices, some near the ranch, some not.

Military base, eh? I guess they're moving away from that 'cease and desist' letter to "Full-scale nuclear destruction of the creator of the misuse of intellectual property of Lucasarts". That or a flat-out mail-bomb..

Actually, given the era that that base is from, they'll be needing to buy powder and extra cannonballs to defend their copyrights :)

Have you seen the Presidio, though? Check out some websites. It's a beautiful area.
