... and it has the potential not to suck? Maybe?

More news will be released at E3, but with keywords like "bounty hunter", "mature", and "action adventure" we will give 1313 the benefit of the doubt. For now. Go read the press release and make up your own mind.

LucasArts Drops Gamers into the Criminal Underworld with New Mature Themed Videogame Franchise, Star Wars 1313™

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif - May 31, 2012 - LucasArts, a Lucasfilm Ltd. company, announced today a new internally developed videogame franchise, Star Wars 1313™. The game will make its formal debut at the 2012 Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles June 5-7. As players take control of a lethal bounty hunter in a never-before-seen dark and mature world, Star Wars 1313 introduces an integrated development approach by bringing together great artists across the Lucasfilm organization, including LucasArts, Industrial Light & Magic, Lucasfilm Animation Ltd. and Skywalker Sound. A third person cinematic action adventure game, Star Wars 1313 will bring to life the Coruscant underworld, the most dangerous place in the Star Wars™ galaxy.

Named for Level 1313, a ruthless criminal underground deep below the surface of the planet of Coruscant, the game puts players in control of a deadly bounty hunter as he uses an arsenal of exotic weaponry to hunt down his marks and uncover the truth surrounding a criminal conspiracy. Star Wars 1313 emphasizes epic set pieces and fast-paced combat with a hero who uses human skills and gadgets, rather than supernatural Force powers, to make his way through this dangerous world.

"We're excited to share one of the projects LucasArts has been hard at work developing," said Paul Meegan, President, LucasArts. "Star Wars 1313 dives into a part of the Star Wars mythos that we've always known existed, but never had a chance to visit. We are committed to bringing the best gameplay experience and visual fidelity to life and I truly believe the work we are showcasing at E3 will speak for itself."

I including TFU cause I needed another link to use for the word "bad".

    I just dont buy it.

Theyve had non jedi star wars games, with bounty hunters, smugglers, pod racers, demo derby drivers, go cart racers, and bar tenders as main characters. 95% of them dont make it out of the original trilogies universe, and 95% of them arent that good.

I agree with the "oh maybe this one wont suck" ideas. But I thought that with TFU. And what happened? The series was horrible and killed off 2 of the best characters ever.

    Lucas can go fuck themselves.

I agree Sopabuena - I'm somewhat hopeful for this game - always found the underworld of Coruscant and bounty hunters interesting parts of the Star Wars mythos. This sounds like it could be a good game.

I think we are being unfair with LucasArts this time. This is a bold move for them, not to have a Jedi as a protagonist on an ambitious game. I don't think we have seen enough of the Star Wars dark underwold before.

All of those games you mention (with the obvious exception of Bounty Hunter) have very little in common with the idea behind this game. And they are also some of the best Star Wars game of the last 10 years (I didn't play Bounty Hunter, but I think it's either love or hate it kind of game).
Other than it relates to the dark side of the force, I don't see why you mention The Force Unleashed. Even the game PR tries to distant itself from TFU: "a hero who uses human skills and gadgets, rather than supernatural Force powers, to make his way through this dangerous world."

I understand that Lucas has let us down many times before and we have devoloped this knee jerk reaction to hate everything they announce, but I'm positve they will get it right this time. I'm sure this is the Clint Hocking project and I certainly would't mind an Star Wars game done like Far Cry 2.

    Let's wait for the trailer.

For the sites record, I've been having trouble posting lately, hence the double post. If I dont log in at the top of the screen first, posting a comment result in my clicking "Post comment" and the site reloading with nothing being posted. Tonight, after having that happen, I logged in on the site first, then clicked on post reply, and copy and pasted what I wrote, and hit "Post comment" and it worked, but posted twice.

    WTF is Lucas's problem?

"Star Wars 1313 dives into a part of the Star Wars mythos that we've always known existed, but never had a chance to visit. We are committed to bringing the best gameplay experience and visual fidelity to life and I truly believe the work we are showcasing at E3 will speak for itself."

Yeah, we've never seen the shadowy underground of Star Wars before? Except in all the other bad Star Wars games[/url] of the last few years.

Apparently, in the Star Wars galaxy, everyone and their mother is a flipping bounty hunter.

Paired with the announcement that Lucas is abdicating his office at Lucasfilm to Kathleen Kennedy, and it's been a kinda-not-too-terrible-day for us ever-hopeful sorts.
