LucasArts Sam & Max 2 to be revived? 30 Nov, 2004, 20:57 / 22 comments

In an itriguing thread posted at The Inventory, a spokesperson for Bad Brains Entertainment (who have just picked up Autumn Moon's Vampyre's Story) made an astounding comment;
"...also there are negotiations with LucasArts but I can't get into detail here. Maybe this will be the surprise release of 2005. The game you all wanted but didn't get (except for a fine trailer)..."

Read the whole thing, and followup comments here.

    "It turns out Wolfgang isn't short on enthusiasm. He even manages to sound completely unlike your typical CEO,"

    Hey, that sounds like your typical Lucasarts employee!

    ...of about ten years ago. :(

    Call me pessimistic, but I dont see the stone faced suits of today's lucasarts reacting well to displays of enthusiasm and honest passion.

    Lucasarts boycot reinstated.

    I don't see the stone faced suits of today's lucasarts reacting well to displays of enthusiasm and honest passion when a NDA is supposedly signed about the deal.

    Honestly, Wolfgang's recent antics are likely gonna mean any potential deal will be cancelled. I just wish he'd shut up about it until he actually secures the rights.

    *Then* we can suck his dick.

    Marek interviews Bad-Brain here;

    I have a few questins about Bad-Brain having just read Marek's interview.

    I guess we'll find out soon enough when their site goes live, but is Bad-Brain a development studio as well as a publisher / investor?

    Are I-Jet and Orgastic Four internal Bad-Brain projects?

    This is all extremely promising, with or without Sam & Max 2.

    However the cynic in me feels the whole "buying Sam & Max 2 from LucasArts" thing could be nothing more than a publicity stunt to get some exposure for Bad-Brain. Let's face it if the deal falls over (and they're saying an awful lot for someone who's signed an NDA) then it won't be hard to make it all look like LucasArts fault.

    But good on Bad-Brain for getting the buzz for their company and projects kick-started in this way!

    Mmh... so does this mean that the surprise game from TellTaleGames isn't Sam & Max?
  • jp-30 on 06 Dec, 2004, 02:33…
    They've made no secret that their 1st licenced game will not be Sam & Max, but that they were hoping to develop a new Sam & Max game sometime in the future once rights reverted back to Purcell from LucasArts.

    Awww!!!

    And I was having so much fun running a Lucasarts boycotting campaign!!

    I like to think I've been responsible for five less KOTOR sales, and a good field of influence from the bagging out i gave it at my little cousins party.

    And then theres starwars galaxies, which is so easy to bag out, especially with WOW and everquest two out..

    And then theres theres Episode III, which I was having considerable success at convincing friends to "Do a Matrix Revolutions" and just avoid the third bit because the second was so crap...

    But alas, I had made a promise to myself to stop this fun if Lucasarts let Sam and Max 2 see the light of day, and it looks like they have.

    I wouldn't cancel your campaign of terror until you actually have the game in your hot little hands.

    Too soon yet for dancing naked in the streets, methinks.

    I see Jake has more info here!

    http://www.adventuregamers.com/newsitem.php?id=824

    Well, he did before the story was edited. The plot thickens...
  • Scummbuddy on 30 Nov, 2004, 23:27…
    what extra info would that be?
  • jp-30 on 30 Nov, 2004, 23:44…
    Just some comments on the story from another source. But I'm sure they were pulled for good reason, though if Jake wishes to share, I'm sure he will... ;)

  • Jake on 02 Dec, 2004, 04:54…
    More info coming soon, or never :) We'll see how this pans out. Obviously since I had to censor the news update, things are less than definite and very very rumorey. Interesting stuff for sure, though. Everybody keep their fingers crossed that this is what it sounds like it is, and that something good comes from it! :)

    Also maybe once I can convince DJG to fix the cookie bug or whatever is preventing me from logging into the admin pages using Firefox I will post some news here again. For now I'm locked out of my own site except for comment posting (which doesn't require a cookie).
