LucasArts Releases "Best Of" Soundtrack 21 Nov, 2002, 13:48 / 37 comments

The SCUMM Bar has pointed out that the LucasArts Company Store is now selling a new audio CD entitled The Best of LucasArts Original Soundtracks. The CD includes music from The Curse of Monkey Island, The Dig, Outlaws, Escape From Monkey island, Grim Fandango, RTX Red Rock, and Gladius.

I just have one thing to say... it's about friggin' time! Now how about updated recordings from Monkey Island 2, Fate of Atlantis, and Sam and Max, eh? Oh, and if you live outside the US or Canada... sorry.

    Good God!
I made a request (through e-mail) to LEC back in 1998 to release a soundtrack album containing original scores from each of their games. Do you suppose I had any influence on LEC's decision to release this album?

Too bad it doesn't seem to have any from Afterlife... I thought the game had some incredible soundtrack.

Jayel, I think we all approached LucasArts with such a request. Or two. Or a dozen. (More like seventy-thousand in my case.)

    :-)

Someone graphically talented please remake the cover of this CD.

    For an image: http://www.lucasarts.com/companystore/misc/cd.htm

Maybe it should be the next House of Mojo Contest? ?

p.s. - the original monkey island score still can send chills down my spine. impressive.
  • RumRogerz on 22 Nov, 2002, 07:52…
Yea, if they made soundtracks to the old schol games, I would definatly order it. FOA's soundtrack is kick ass!

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!&%#$E *^T
    this rules

but boo on lucasarts for still not making it available for european fans
they should revise their contracts with activision or something :(

i'm going to ask someone to buy it for me

Too bad I already have all of the non-cutscene music from all those games already, thanks to Scumm Revisited. Excluding Red Rock and Gladius of course. If there's CMI or EMI cutscene music on this disc, I might buy it. Otherwise it's nothing new to me.

I'd pay $50 for updated versions of MI2 or Fate of Atlantis, though. Come on, LucasArts, chop chop.
  • telarium on 22 Nov, 2002, 07:24…
The advantage of this is that the audio is probably uncompressed and not mixed with ambient sound effects, though.

Jeffery!! WHERE IS THE LEC-EUROPE SHOP!!!!!!!!!!????????????????????????????????????????
  • Kingzjester on 21 Nov, 2002, 20:02…
Seeing how there is a bigger market for adventure games in Europe than in US that would make sense... they could sell loads of back-adventures that way...
  • Trapezoid on 21 Nov, 2002, 22:28…
I would think that Europe would be put off by MI2's monkey wrench puzzle... :)
  • spaff on 22 Nov, 2002, 02:38…
i do have to admit... that was a pain in the ass :)

    IT'S A DAMN SPANNER
  • Jake on 22 Nov, 2002, 13:48…
That puzzle was ridiculous enough if you spoke American.
  • QueZTone on 22 Nov, 2002, 15:39…
    oooooh, NOW i get it!
  • ZeroXcape on 21 Nov, 2002, 17:26…
how can they say "RTX Red Rock, and Gladius" fall in the best of category ?
  • telarium on 21 Nov, 2002, 18:17…
They don't, really. They refer to them as "preview tracks." A means of promotion, without a doubt... but if that's what it takes, I'm all for it.
  • Jake on 21 Nov, 2002, 18:36…
It is a crying shame that some of the live orchestral stuff from Indy & the Emperor's Tomb didn't end up on this CD along with RTX and Gladius. Apparently John Williams doesn't authorize CD Soundtrack use of music based on music he's already written. Sucky.
  • RaptorII on 22 Nov, 2002, 16:04…
Man, who shoved the orchestral wand up hi... er. Uh... *ahem* I mean come on, it isn't like it is really a different company! Ugh.

Hmm, man so many classical composers would be pissed as all hell if they held similar beliefs... and could see what was going on now.

Uh, anyway, just wanted to point out my complaint, and how we would have little of anything if everything was done like that, as only so many permutations of things can be done before they are similar enough that one might think it derivative of something already made!

    Oh man... books... so screwed.
*endrant* Heh, pointless complaining is fun.
  • telarium on 26 Nov, 2002, 07:41…
I do think it's kind of odd. Anyone remember the Shadows of the Empire soundtrack? I don't see why Williams would allow people to release new scores based around Star Wars themes but not Indy. Unless Shadows just left a bad taste in his mouth or something.
  • Scummbuddy on 22 Nov, 2002, 10:59…
maybe it will get its own CD...
  • spaff on 21 Nov, 2002, 16:58…
We will try and work out some way of you buying the CD through us if you live outside of the USA .. .as i do...

would anyone seriously be interested in that?
  • Laserschwert on 23 Nov, 2002, 09:23…
    Yes, please!

Shame on you, LucasArts! I'm from Germany, and I WANT this CD so much... what's the problem about shipping stuff to Europe? In the days of PayPal this really shouldn't get in the way... of... uhm... making money... C'MON!!!

Well, if someone would order it for me... that would be awesome!

  • itsgood2slide on 22 Nov, 2002, 09:39…

  • Calvinh on 22 Nov, 2002, 04:32…
Yes, and perhaps have a poll about it to see if the interest is high enough.
  • bgbennyboy on 22 Nov, 2002, 03:17…
    Yes indeedy
  • Wizball on 22 Nov, 2002, 01:21…
Yes I collect LEC adventures and related stuff so either I will buy it on ebay once it's offered there or from some kind soul ordering it for us non-worthy Europeans...

Paypal verified so payment shouldn't be an issue. :)

    Thanks

Many must be obtained and given away. Hm how much is from CMI? Just the main MI theme?
  • Jake on 21 Nov, 2002, 16:07…

okay this wins the best news of the week award! :)

hmmm can we create an award for that? that you can vote for each news item, and the one having received most votes at the end of the week, wins the 'best news of the week award' ... that'd be cool no'?

  • Gabez on 22 Nov, 2002, 09:30…
Maybe "best news of the year award".
