LucasArts Classics Might Be Coming Out of the Vault 29 Jun, 2013 / 10 comments

Night Dive Studios, the company that managed to untie the legal mess surrounding System Shock 2 to negotiate the digital re-release of that game, is apparently negotiating to digitally re-release more games that are currently unavailable.

In this case, it seems they are trying to free the LucasArts adventure games from the Disney Vault, since they posted a teaser on their Facebook page that they are "Heading to Corley Motors!" (complete with a shot of Ben Throttle on his Corley motorcycle). After posting shout-outs to more LucasArts adventure games, such as Sam & Max Hit the Road on their twitter page, they were asked by twitter user BJ Wanlund to clarify the meaning of their LucasArts teases. Night Dive Studios responded by saying "We're hoping for it as much as everyone else, that's all we can say at the moment!"

So it seems like more classic LucasArts adventure games might come out on digital distribution sites some day after all. Or, they might not. We'll just have to wait and see how this situation develops.

Well... Glad you guys mentioned me, even in passing! Been a longtime fan of your site, and a longtime fan of LucasArts in general. Thanks again!

Just noticed, they put one of the Festival songs from Grim Fandango up on their Facebook page, they do seem to be really pushing a lot of LucasArts love around the place.

Not to mention they asked today which LucasArts game we would most like to see in HD. Something's brewing...

This name-dropping when the deal isn't in the bag yet is making me uncomfortable. Smells like Bad Brain. Since they got SS2 I suppose there is hope, but I worry they may be shooting themselves in the foot here.

My thoughts exactly. They're jumping the gun a little too early if they haven't even sealed the deal. If however they've already signed with LucasArts\Disney and are just teasing us while they prepare to make an announcement or get clearance to do so, that's a different story.

I used to wish so badly for a sequel to Full Throttle. Now I hope no one puts their dirty hands on the classics. They just aren't qualified to do that. A lot of recent graphic adventures suck embarassingly.
So, I just hope they're re-selling it and that's it. Only Ron, Tim and Dave can touch those legendary games. Or maybe someone who was trained by them personally.

If this turns out to be a lot of baloney and cheese, they're gonna wind up with a bullet in their foot some kinda way.

i would not get my hopes up yet, but Lucas Arts games on GOG.com would be great, even though i already own alot of their adventure games.
