LucasArts Announces Publishing Deal 15 Apr, 2002, 14:35 / 34 comments

LucasArts has issued a press release, announcing that they have obtained the publishing rights for a game called Wrath. This action/strategy game involves one-on-one battles with monstrous characters as well as commanding entire armies.

The game is being made by The Collective, which recently was picked by LucasArts to make the next Indiana Jones game. Simon Jeffery, president of LucasArts, stated that "LucasArts feels it is the ideal publisher; Wrath complements our original game legacy incredibly well and supports our continuing strategy of working with the world's premiere game developers."

To learn more about this game, you can visits its website or click on some of the images below. The game is expected to release for next generation console platforms in 2003.

The monsters kinda look like the monsters in Warcraft III.

Your post had to be removed because the URL you typed was too long and didn't have any breaks in it, causing the HTML on this page to go insane and screwed up the design. So I think Spaff just reposted it and broke the URL up a bit.

Arg... LEC is going to lameness! What ever happend to the great original adventures.. Why all the 3d mega ultra combat fighter power things, i hate that. LEC became what it is now because of Adventure games, yet they are abandoning us. Damnit.

    Woha! chill,man!

They quite obviously became what they are now because of Star Wars. Hint: technically, and not really technically, LEC owes you nothing. They owe us nothing.

What, we bought their games so they owe us? No, for our money they gave us a game that they made with the intent of selling it for profit. The end.

I hope LEC puts out some truly original inventive games like they used to, too, but I'm tired of wandering around lamenting how they have killed themselves and how adventures will save the planet.

The old games they made changed my life, they were things that inspired me. Games like Starwars part XXXIII don't inspire me at all. I've always appreciated their games and will always do but the games are nothing compared to what they ment.

And i don't expect them to owe me anything to be honest. Dunno where you got that, anyway it was just my brief pissed reaction at yet another game i personally do not like. No offense ment :p

That's exactly how I feel! I love the classic adventure games! Guybrush Threepwood, Indiana Jones, Sam and Max, The Maniac Mansion kids, Zak Mckracken, Bobin Thredbare, Ben, Jasper and Aria, and Manny Calavara are the people who put me on this earth. But I always hated Starwars games, their all the same! Except I think this game's gonna be great!

I'm not excited about Wrath either to be honest. I mean, LucasArts must have seen something in it to pick it up out of the blue, it being not a Star Wars title, and all, but I don't think it's going to change my life. The old games told stories that hadn't really been told, and did it in a way that made you care and relate to the characters despite the premises being completely goofy. I love that. However, I'm not going to say that I feel betrayed when I hear one update about a game I know nothing about and have never seen before :)
  • QueZTone on 16 Apr, 2002, 06:47…
yes i think so too. I mean..at least its an original title and not starwars right? The thing that bothers me however is that itll be a console game :/
  • SamNMax on 21 Apr, 2002, 14:59…
So? It's a console game, who cares?
  • Jake on 16 Apr, 2002, 10:19…
The best selling PC game makes only as much money as a mediocre console game. Though, I'd like to see at least PC/console simultaneous development. I mean, all these companies say "now that console is finally up to the caliber of the PC, we can be pushing out top quality games for them!" yet, when they port console games to the PC they always look like budget titles. Whats that about?
  • SamNMax on 21 Apr, 2002, 15:01…
Hmm. Yes, I guess your right.
  • Metallus on 16 Apr, 2002, 00:32…
    Agreed.
  • QueZTone on 15 Apr, 2002, 22:27…
to me this sounds like the 21st century version of Afterlife..which turned out bad. But i shall not be the pesimest so I'll just say..."we'll see?"
  • mercatfat on 15 Apr, 2002, 21:30…
It sounds like a stripped-down Black and White with only the creature combat left intact and the addition of armies.. and assuming they won't play much of a part in the gameplay but to add a little damage to your opponent, it sounds pretty shallow. Then again, if the armies add an RTS element with resource gathering and building, it might be kinda fun. Kind of an odd title for LA to pick up, though.
  • SamNMax on 21 Apr, 2002, 15:04…
    You mean like Warcraft?
  • Jake on 16 Apr, 2002, 00:21…
Grim was also odd. Most people thought it wouldn't work as a game when it was first announced. :)
  • glottis42 on 15 Apr, 2002, 18:51…
Could this be the first Mature game every released by LEC? Kinda looks like it might be.
  • telarium on 15 Apr, 2002, 19:06…
I seem to remember a mirror above Nurse Edna's bed in Maniac Mansion as well as an exchange between her and Dave when she says she wished she had tied him to her bed. :)
  • Jake on 15 Apr, 2002, 17:35…
It looks very red :) But like most in-development stuff with that much attention to detail, even only from 9/01, it could be really cool when it comes out. E3?
  • Dalixam on 15 Apr, 2002, 14:50…
Why do they start publishing other companies' games now? It looks horrible btw.
  • Dalixam on 15 Apr, 2002, 14:52…
Well, not completely horrible. Some of the screenshots look pretty good :) I still wonder why they start publishing games that are not their own though.
  • Jake on 15 Apr, 2002, 17:31…
It's not completely unheard of. Bungie, back in their in-house-only, Mac-only days, went crazy and published the Mac version of Abuse.
  • Metallus on 15 Apr, 2002, 14:42…
Wow. This is probably LEC's most unique undertaking since Grim Fandango. I hope it's good! ;0)
  • Jake on 15 Apr, 2002, 17:33…
    ... that was a joke?
  • Metallus on 15 Apr, 2002, 23:26…
    ...when the log rolls over!
  • Metallus on 16 Apr, 2002, 00:33…
Actually, what I meant was that it's the first non-Star Wars, non-Indy, and non-Monkey game to fall under the LEC title in quite some time. That's all. And I hope it's good.
  • SamNMax on 19 Apr, 2002, 13:17…
Yeah, that's also a big change.
