Lie And We'll Sic Our Legal Team On You 16 Sep, 2002 / Comments: 41
Ok everyone, it's time for a new poll. With the help of a very angry two headed baby, Tim Schafer quickly dispatched the Skeleton Guy / Robox tag team combo, making Schafer the winner of Mojo Poll Showdown '02. Who honestly cares (besides Tim Schafer's mom, maybe)? Well, nobody. That's why we're finally moving on from that showdown business and starting anew.
After reading comments in this recent news thread, we figured it would be fun to find out what people think about The Mojo these days. Have we sold out?
I don't know what "selling out" really entails, or to whom we'd sell out (Besides those horrendous popups that keep appearing, that is. Damn them). Anyway, maybe you know, so maybe you can vote and then yell at us about it in the comments.
I'd like to see more unbiased reporting. Sometimes it seems like this site fawns over every piece of shoddy software that Lucasarts churns out. This can make you look like the worst kind of blinkered fanboys!
Sure, if a game is decent then give it plenty of coverage - Be enthusiastic! But if a game is shoddy, money spinning pap (and lets face it, if we're totally honest most of the stuff that Lucasarts churns out nowadays ranges from awful to average at best) then don't give it too much coverage, and inform readers that it is poor.
Basically, don't convey the view that you unconditionally like everything that Lucasarts makes, because it harms your integrity. Acknowledge Lucasarts' problems as well as their triumphs.
We're not going to deny that we're big fat fanboys (not literally fat). I mean, hint: we run The International House of Mojo. We like LEC's heritage and it makes it hard to be a complete dick. But that doesn't mean that we won't (and haven't) reamed games that deserve it.
We're not going to completely pan a game just because it's not a graphic adventure, but we're not going to rant and drool over the next derivitive Star Wars game just because it is well marketed. Ironically we've been accused of both panning/ripping into anything LucasArts that isn't an adventure, and also accused of being ultimately drooly-fanboy nice to anything that LucasArts makes regardless of quality. There are good games and bad games and the ones that fall in between in any genre, and we try to express that.
One other note is that while LEC's recent titles haven't all been blockbusters (Not that they've always made blockbusters all the time anyways. Who here has played Metal Warriors?) many of their recent games haven't really sucked all that much. Sometimes they're lacking in visual glitz but make up for it with good stories and/or action (Starfighter, Battlegrounds), or sometimes its the other way around (Rogue Leader). Either way, I wouldn't call most of their recent games crap or terrible or 100%-avoid-on-sight.
however - there aren't as much cool LEC games out there these days, maybe Mojo needs some new areas to report about and to get involved.
world domination, anyone?
ok- now it's the international dominating house of mojo ... and i want to be the governour of a beautiful island deep in the caribbean -
Its just an idea really Im just MAD about adventure games (even Sierra)
So give me you're opinion and tell me what you think.
To be honest I wasnt like this last year. Last year I hadnt even signed up for a Mojo? account (because its not even my computer that has the Internet but thats a different story) I went to my relatives brand new house and got a shot on her brand new computer and downloaded several Nintendo ROMs or whatever (which was what I was doing around the time anyway) til I discovered Abandonware links and proceeded to download a couple LucasArts? Adventures to put on some disks and take home with me. Several days or whatever later when I had played through those games I got a little bored so I decided to try "Leisure Suit Larry?" to see what it was like and from then on I was hooked. I started downloading Sierra Games and other things as well and keeping them on a CD which got damaged last March and unfortunately the abandonware sites took the games off so I had to rely on a search engine. I got all those games back and some more of those sequels but I wont rest until I've bought or downloaded then played ALL the Adventure Games (Just LucasArts? and Sierra? games) even if it mean piracy BWAHAHAHAHAHA....
err... Did I just say that out loud?
