Launch Party news 20 Feb, 2001 / Comments: 25

Lucasfans reports from the Starfighter Launch party with much new good news, the most interesting;
He also provides us with some interesting tidbits about future LucasArts titles. Nine new games will be announced at the E3 this year, and "there's a good chance that one of the upcoming PS2 games will be EMI". However, you don't have to wait until E3 to hear new announcements, since there will be an announcement on the 27th about a new PC game!
The source also reveals that "At least one of the new games will be a sequel to a non-Star Wars themed LucasArts game" LEC doesn't have many of these apart from Adventures (I will sooo hurt something if its Outlaws 2, or god forbid Afterlife 2!) so here's hoping. so stay tuned on the 27th. Go Adventures!

Loom 2?! Now how the hell would they do that!? No offence meant... I loved the game. Loom would be good as a play though.

OH come on now. How in the world (or afterworld) would there be any plot in comparison to the great Grim Fandango. Did you not pay attention to the end of the game where everyone went where they were supposed to or got shot up along the way. Now tell us how you would make another 100 hour game like that one seemed to be. Dont touch this game again LucasArts you did a fantastic job.

If they wanted to, they could do it reasonably well. Use the same setting, same cities (maybe), but with all-new characters and completely unrelated plot. Maybe "30 years later" or something like that. Still, there are games I'd much rather see sequels to than GF where I think LEC would do a much better job.

Sam n Max 2 isn't gonna happen. It's been explained many times before. An MM III sounds promising and quite likely. I'm suprised that no one's said MI5! Or maybe Loom 2:Bobbin goes to Manhatten. BTW is that 27th of February or what? And will E3 be at the end of April again?

Perhaps it's been explained a lot, but I missed it. Why not?

I think Fox Entertainment owns the rights to Sam n Max after the TV show, or SOMETHING like that. thats also why Max cant make those cameos anymore, i think. Anyone else have a better memory than i do about this?

Isn't Steve Purcell working on another Sam and Max cartoon, though?
  • spaff on 21 Feb, 2001, 09:52…
Steve (Purcell)owns the rights to the lovable two as far as i know- but jake's your man on that front! if LEC loan the rights from him they could make another game.. prolly. its one of those big legal tings that sucks. :P

I think he said in an interview (I could be wrong, though) that he'd love to do another game, too.

I also belive Fox's license expired a few months back. Could be wrong though.
  • tabacco on 21 Feb, 2001, 23:08…
Makes sense. It would be foolish for Lucasarts to grant them eternal rights to Sam and Max (or whatever it's officially called... I'm no lawyer :)).
  • Remi O on 21 Feb, 2001, 23:51…
Actually, LEC doesn't own the rights. Steve Purcell does.
  • tabacco on 22 Feb, 2001, 03:52…
Ah, yes. That makes sense. I'm starting to lose it... I know it :) (this message is an entry into the world's narrowest post contest)

Hey Spaff (or whoever's responsible for your code)... to keep this sort of thing from happening, you might want to add a counter that will stop indenting after a couple of levels... or else reduce the space to just a few  s

Nevermind... just notices that it seems to average out the width, as my post above just got wider :)
  • tabacco on 22 Feb, 2001, 06:08…
Oh... this table is getting wider :)
  • Chunkey Monkey on 20 Feb, 2001, 08:43…
    We'd all love a Sam & Max 2.
  • Jake on 20 Feb, 2001, 08:42…
/me puts money on grim 2, or mm 3
  • Chunkey Monkey on 20 Feb, 2001, 08:26…
Hey! There'd be nothing wrong with a sequal to Outlaws.
  • Chunkey Monkey on 20 Feb, 2001, 08:25…
    What about Full Throttle 2.
  • tabacco on 20 Feb, 2001, 07:05…
Go Sam and Max 2 ("The search for more roadkill")! Or, almost as cool, Maniac Mansion III: Revenge of the Tentacle! More likely than anything, though, it's going to be another Indy game.
