Infinite Machine: Not So Infinite? 01 Aug, 2002 / Comments: 19

As Adventure Gamers is reporting and as many sources have been telling us for the past few months, it seems that Infinite Machine is dead. The company, founded by Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight designer Justin Chin, faced many problems with the publication of their Xbox game entitled New Legends. It seems likely that these issues combined with the less-than-wonderful sales of this title caused the company to dissolve.

The real tragedy here is that Infinite Machine was in production of a new Sam and Max action adventure. This will certainly cause fans to wonder if that project is also dead, or whether a company like LucasArts will develop the game on their own. Only time will tell.

I guess we won't be seeing that lovely Infinite Machine pic again. *sniff*

I wish someone like Atari would have picked up New Legends for the PC. It would be one of the better MP games on the market and live on through the continual editing of the game. New Legends and IM had so much potential, (especially with the early NL crowd,) sucks to see them go.

All blame is laid upon the Xbox.

correction: All blame is placed upon poor advertising.

I blame the publisher. It's as if they set them up for failure intentionally.

    Agreed.

Well, the game did receive some less than glowing reviews, which can break you when you release games exclusively for new platforms. In that sense, I guess the publisher is to blame. They have insanity like a manatee, I guess.

It's a shame... but then I never thought Sam & Max in space would work.

Hey, one of Sam and Max's classic comic book adventures takes place on the moon. They're seasoned astronauts.

Two of the Sam & Max? cartoons took place in outer space and one of the comic strips takes the piss out of Star Wars? with Sam riding an X-Wing? and Max being where the R2 unit should be.

I actually think that could be a really cool idea. Like if you combine Futurama and Sam and Max humor.

    Maybe I was wrong then.

well, if i had known about New Legends being from infinite machine and was the deciding factor of whether or not Sam n max was being made...
  • telarium on 01 Aug, 2002, 09:36…
Yes, you alone could have saved Sam and Max 2! :) But it is a shame, since New Legends got all that great buzz during E3 a few years ago. But by the time it finally came out... bleh.

Well look, we just lost one of our games. I hope someone will pick it up *cough*(LucasArts!) How would we feel if Full Throttle 2 was dropped? Infinite Machine should have started with Sam n Max.

(this is Jake not sarah) - It's really hard to pay your employees when you don't have a publisher signed to cut you checks every once and a while, let alone promising to box your game and put it out in stores.
  • Scummbuddy on 01 Aug, 2002, 14:31…
im not doing anything...i don't mind boxing a few thousand sam n max 2 games, just for fun. Paypal for Infinite Machine.
