Incoming Call! Put the Internet on HOLD! 27 Oct, 2002 / Comments: 13

Yes, we all hate the ringing phone ad that's been making the rounds, too. We're working on getting it the hell out of here. Hopefully it will leave soon for good. Apologies for the torture.

Bring back the BMX XXX ads, dammit.

heh ... I am blissfully ignorant of these ads.

Modify your "Hosts" file and you will never see any of the LucasForum pop-ups and pop-unders ... no program needed.

they're not popups, you know. they're regular ones. i guess you dont see those either?

But don't you have to modify your hosts file EVERY time you see a new popup? Share your knowledge please. :)

If you are unsure about creating your own, you can get a pre-made one that's pretty complete, here:
    http://www.accs-net.com/hosts/
It has 100s of entries, so you won't need to modify it to prevent the ads around here, but certainly, in the future, you may need to update it.

No more banners, no more spyware cookies, no more pop ups and pop unders, and best of all, no programs need to be installed to prevent them. This file is so clean, it squeaks.

Great, now they're still all there, but show up as a 404 instead.

    Just discovered this:

If you're reading a long page with the phone ad, right-click on it and uncheck Play and Loop. Actually this will work for all flash banner ads, even ones that don't have a sound off button.

I gotta say, thanks, I didn't know you could cheat with the host file that way. Works like crazy.

    Most... annoying... ad banner... EVER!

It's not as bad as that one that says "Hey! You! Click on this ad! Over Here! Restructure your debt toda..". I bet it says more, but I always click the sound off button by then.

LOL, at first I thought somebody hacked my computer and was playing a joke on me.

    What an amateurish hacking attempt.
