I Was a Two Headed Baby 05 Aug, 2002 / Comments: 41

After a lot of stupid crap which will not be explained here, our latest feature story, Return to Double Fine, is online. Chronicling our latest trip to the offices of Grim Fandango creator Tim Schafer and his gang (currently working on the upcoming Psychonauts for XBox), the story is certain to amaze, amuse, and possibly even disgust.

Some of you may have read the article earlier today when it was miracuously linked from GameSpot hours before running. Good times. If you caught it then, we suggest you read it again!

Also, twifkak, you're on our enemies list.

Hey guys! Someone at GameSpot loves j00! Over here:
    click!
They posted a link to the article already. That means that someone from gamespot must be a daily reader of the House. How cool.
  • Jake on 08 Aug, 2002, 18:25…
It's not that cool... Besides, he's just someone I know on IRC.
  • Gabez on 09 Aug, 2002, 07:11…
You should edit that address. It's ruining my Mojo fun.
  • twifkak on 09 Aug, 2002, 12:23…
Indeed... 'cept, I don't see an edit button. Wha?
  • Jake on 09 Aug, 2002, 18:40…
you can only edit a post up to 24 hours after you post it. after that you're s.o.l.
  • Greatman on 06 Aug, 2002, 21:39…
Best Pic (IMO) : Dave and Tim reading upside down hint book of MI2. Not only because it was best adventure ever created, but also two were the designers of that game, just amazing when you think about it.
  • Greatman on 06 Aug, 2002, 21:34…
Finally, Microsoft wins. I will buy XBOX when Psychonauts arrive. Smart move by them, as bringing best adventure game developer to XBOX.
  • mxbx on 06 Aug, 2002, 20:28…
I've removed my message because it made no sense at all.
  • DasJan on 07 Aug, 2002, 17:08…
I removed this answer, too. It was stupid.

(This kind of post is cool! Thanks for the idea, mxbx!)

How many of us will actually take up Tim up on his offer of sending him our proof of purchase?
  • Big_Whoop on 06 Aug, 2002, 16:38…
Dave reminds me of Guybrush in MI1...
  • Oystein on 08 Aug, 2002, 07:18…
Actually, he reminds me of Michael Palin from Monty Python.
  • numble on 06 Aug, 2002, 16:35…
Hi, I'm a lurker/newbie, so don't be too derisive if you guys already know about this stuff. I was just wondering if you guys have noticed the easter egg(s) at doublefine's webpage.
  • Jayel on 06 Aug, 2002, 17:02…
*gasp* What easter egg?!? Tell us or face the perils of doom!!!
  • numble on 06 Aug, 2002, 21:30…
If you have IE, put your cursor over the doublefine logos in each of the sections (products, news, about, and jobs) in order, and the "ALT" text will unveil.. each section says something different and it words out a sentence. Also fun to view all the other "ALT" text for other images (like the dead rats). If you use Netscape, you'll have to view the source, which isn't as fun. Don't know about other browsers.
  • Haggis on 06 Aug, 2002, 23:58…
Opera only displays the "ALT" text while the image is loading - not when it's fully loaded.
  • Gabez on 07 Aug, 2002, 06:02…
Double Fine should use "title" tags as well.
  • Scummbuddy on 06 Aug, 2002, 21:56…
    You...have found...the Easter...Egg. Congratulations!
  • QueZTone on 07 Aug, 2002, 04:16…
but it isn't Easter until next year, I don't get it? ?_?
  • Scummbuddy on 06 Aug, 2002, 16:27…
Was David Grossman the super-secret guest that you were talking about about a week ago?
  • scabb on 06 Aug, 2002, 16:19…
    I love the box robot
  • Shanty on 06 Aug, 2002, 17:00…
I worship Robox. I wish Robox would come to life and rid the world of crime and suffering. Yes, that goes on my wishlist, right next to Unimaginable Riches and World Peace.
  • QueZTone on 06 Aug, 2002, 16:04…
i especially like the edited LCR Hint Book photo :D
  • twifkak on 06 Aug, 2002, 12:07…
Enemy? *sigh* Poor me. I didn't post the link, I just pointed to a GameSpot editorial. Surely there's no shame in that (outside of the usual shame associated with reading GameSpot).

Now will you guys tell me what W.O.N.K.Y. is? :D
  • Jake on 06 Aug, 2002, 17:25…
Pre-announcing Mojo stories is a worse crime than pre-announcing LucasArts games.
  • twifkak on 07 Aug, 2002, 06:21…
But I didn't. That guy on GameSpot did. I don't know where he got his information from, but it wasn't from me. How would I have known about it, anyway? Besides:
    1. Having developed webpages before, and being a general geek, I assumed that since it was publicly available (no, obfuscated URLs are not a form of password protection -- especially considering the recent Scumm Bar DNS issues causing an article just released not to appear on the front page), it was in its finished form.
    2. Somebody (I believe it was you, but I'm not sure) pre-announced the Mojo history page once, on one of these very news-comment thingies.
    3. Pre-announcing LucasArts games? Oh yeah, you guys don't do that *cofullthrottlebootlegvideough*

Thank you for unenemying me, though. I'll make sure not to spread the love ever again. Now go add Ryan Davis to your enemies list.
  • DJG on 07 Aug, 2002, 08:45…
E-mailing the webmasters and asking if the article is public helps. As opposed to just posting publicly in the comments.
  • twifkak on 07 Aug, 2002, 10:07…
Yeah, actually, I didn't think of that until after I posted it. Then, laziness took over. I apologize for that. In any case, I think "enemies list" was a bit much. It seems I'm now the w00w00 of mixnmojo.
  • Scummbuddy on 07 Aug, 2002, 07:33…
Oh my gosh. It's not that bad a thing. Even if he did do it.
  • Jake on 07 Aug, 2002, 22:16…
Fortunately the "enemies list" thing was mostly a joke. We did get kicked around a little bit when the story first ran though, by a couple important looking pirates people with direct or somewhat direct ties to the gaming industry. ? ?
  • DJG on 06 Aug, 2002, 13:46…
    No.
  • netmonkey on 06 Aug, 2002, 00:49…
DAMNIT... I'm going to california next year with you guys... seriously, I wanna meet dave and tim. I've talked to dave before and stuff, but I really want to meet tim cause he's just my idol :P

Oh, and I'll also bring my boxes of DOTT and Grim Fandango (which is the box with the blue signatures) so they can sign it ;)
  • Jayel on 05 Aug, 2002, 22:08…
My GOD! They work in a garage??? what happens when/if some idiotic df employee left the engine running? tim will suffocate and there would be no psychonauts!!!!
  • Scummbuddy on 08 Aug, 2002, 07:25…
I think that is how they do their best work.
  • Jake on 05 Aug, 2002, 20:44…
Oops, by the way, props to Matt "SweetnutZ" Vainio for drawing the dead mouse which appears in the feature images.
  • Metallus on 05 Aug, 2002, 22:46…
If I wasn't such a loser I'd be playing Urban Terror RIGHT NOW.
  • DJG on 05 Aug, 2002, 19:56…
    Dude.
  • TheRealSchmatz on 05 Aug, 2002, 22:45…
    I agree
  • Gabez on 06 Aug, 2002, 13:35…
    I disagree.
  • Huz on 08 Aug, 2002, 07:27…
