I Dream of Guybrush 06 Jul, 2002, 20:57 / 79 comments

Well, the previous poll is over. It seems only a couple people were interested in actually being able to set a default tab to view when you load mixnmojo.com, but quite a lot of you thought maybe someone else would like it. Guess those in the second group there were wrong (as proven by the first group).

Anyway, this new poll came from Marek of Adventure Gamers. The poll asks: Have you ever had a LucasArts-related dream? If you vote "yes," share about it in the comments, because that sort of thing is both hilarious and awesome. As usual, to vote just click your choice on the poll off to the right, there.

I also remember this other dream where I was watching some sort of Sam & Max? movie based around the game. I dont remember much but it was something about Conroy Bumpus taking over the world i think.

Pretty strange eh. I also had a dream that i was playing CMI and i was in the theme park at the bit where LeChuck is talking to you. I think Guybrush escaped the cage without getting turned into a kid then all of a sudden he's walking along a beach which leads to a big dark castle owned by Chaos (the baddie from Loom?)thats all I remember from that dream.

I also had a dream last night about Lord Of The Rings? where Frodo had gotten strapped up to an electric chair by a goblin then all of a sudden Obi Wan and Mace Windu from Episode 2 came along. Mace Windu was talking about an attack strategy and Obi Wan was saying that he couldnt go along with his strategy and said he had to go and save LucasArts? from something.

Pretty wierd dreams eh. Tell me what you think the wierdest of those three were.

the only things i can remember from my dream is that i met guybrush inside a big whale of some kind and that the whale represented all the good in the world. i have no clue on what guybrush represented. it was guybrush from mi2.
in another dream i met indiana jones but i'm not sure wether it was indy from the movies or the games. anyway he was my classmate in some weird course at a university in sweden.

a few years ago i had a dream with sound only, i heard the starwars-theme very clearly. I knew i was dreaming and the funny thing was that i thought the volume was a little too loud but i couldnt turn it down.

I once had a dream where Guybrush was, for whatever reason, in my house. And I was drooling all over him and acting like a complete ho, and it was making him really nervous. My Mom was cooking something and he said "I really should leave." and I screamed "NO! EAT WITH ME!" then I woke up. I also had a dream with Dom in it(Yeah, yeah, not strictly a Lucasarts dream) where all of a sudden he just popped up at my house and I wanted to give him lunch and all I had was toast so I gave him toast. And for whatever reason he had no shirt on. It didn't make squat sense but it was hilarious. Also, I kept trying to hug him or something and everytime he'd duck down onto the floor, literally fall down, then pop back up. It was stupid. XD

Well When I got Full Throttle and the night I got to where the gas tower gards were serching the road and I didn't know how to get past The ansowr came in my dreams.

You have to wonder if this poll is spawning more LucasArts related dreams than usual...
  • csenosiain on 12 Jul, 2002, 08:12…
    perhaps perhaps
  • The_Petrified_Monkey on 11 Jul, 2002, 01:37…
Hmmm, you think so...? I think some people's imaginations have gone wild but it isn't me to say that people are, dare I say it, lying... :-)

I believe you all and they are very amusing sleep-related visions :-)))
  • Jake on 15 Jul, 2002, 19:36…
I drempt that Guybrush and Dom were my wives. Oops, no I didn't, thank God.

woah wierd dream for me last night i dreamt i was in the Outlaws universe when suddenly i heard "where are ya marshall" and got shot from 4 diffrent directions
  • The_Petrified_Monkey on 10 Jul, 2002, 06:20…
An interesting but totally dull fact that I know about dreams is if you are having a dream and you are interrupted i.e. woken up, you are more likely to remember the dream.

I've probably had many Lucasarts dreams in the past but I never remember dreams. I only remember 3 dreams I've ever had. And one of those is from 10 years ago...

I actually used to have a notepad and a pencil on my drawers at the side of my bed JUST IN CASE I had a really good dream that I needed to remember. But that is just weird so I'll shut up now... :-)
  • Marek on 11 Jul, 2002, 06:53…
I have a notepad next to my bed as well, which I put there for writing down ideas and stuff. But sometimes I write down dreams if they're really weird. They're so weird that I'm no way going to post them here :)
  • The_Petrified_Monkey on 11 Jul, 2002, 07:46…
Thank you for saving us from the horrors of your sordid dreams! :-)

I use my notepad for ideas as well. In fact, I recently had one of them patented so I was dead excited that I finally got one of my ideas, which incidentally are usually crazy, patented. All done before my 21st birthday! And they said I would never amount to anything...

    Just you wait! Mwaahahahahahahaaaaaaa!

    *nervously looks around...* :-)
  • Unno on 10 Jul, 2002, 13:38…
Another totally interesting and dull fact. Most people who don't often remember dreams don't remember them because in the stages of sleep between REM sleep (the stage during which one dreams), they forget what happened in REM sleep. Thus, if someone is woken during REM sleep, they will almost always remember the dream, because they haven't been through the other stages to forget it.

Sorry for boring you all, it's the Psych major in me. :)

Gotta add one from last night. Very strage. Cops are after me for some reason. I'm in a talking car that I designed. (There's too much Knight Rider for you.) Anyway, I find a house very similar to Todd's trailer from Full Throttle. I kick the door open, knocking him out, and hide in there. Then, suddenly, I find a Grim Fandanngo-esque sarcophagus in there and open it with my scythe at which point I discover that I am really Manny. Before anything else could happen, my alarm went off.
  • Ryo Crimson on 09 Jul, 2002, 14:50…
i had a strange dream last night with monkey island islands and tasks, but it had Castlevania weapons, and Metal Gear Solid people. wierd huh?

...Dom Armato on a bus... Long story. ;) (Though what he was doing in Wales, much less on a bus, I never did get to find out...)
  • Metallus on 08 Jul, 2002, 23:35…
Heh, Dom dreams are in a category of their own.
  • GJ on 11 Jul, 2002, 18:45…

  • Taffy3Rock on 11 Jul, 2002, 03:26…
I'm not sure I like where that's going... ;) It was perfectly nice, I promise... although, I do have an odd feeling that Spaff was involved. Eep! :)
  • matt on 08 Jul, 2002, 11:25…
    i guess i had one but i can't remember - so i can't say for sure...

BUT i do remember a dream where i told a friend to kill his (in real life really friendly) dog because the dog injured him and he's bleeding ... so he goes away and kills his dog. After that everybody (including his parents) blames him for having killed his dog and i'm disgusted because he starts to cry.

    weird and kafka-esque.

Just recently I dreamt a mixture of Harry Potter (having seen the film and thought it was crap) and Jedi Knight (as I was playing the game and was stuck in the junk plant somewhere). It was Hogwarts with lightsabers and mind tricks and ugly monsters throwing bombs at you... I woke up and yelled, "WTF!!!" off the top of my voice.

Oh, and the scream was closer to WADaFAAAAAAAK! Although I can't remember in what language I did scream exactly... This is just an anglicized version for massunderstanding.

I once had a dream where I was on Monkey Island. I saw the future of computer graphics! Everything was 3D but it looked like Bill Tiller had hand-painted every frame. Things soon turned unpleasant though, when a group of angry monkeys chased me around the island. Seriously, I am not kidding you. A friend of mine had a dream about blowing up the dam in MI1, except it was bizarre and had him in it except Guybrush.

I hope one night I will dream about Rubacava, or the Mayan temple at the end of Grim. That would be a cool dream.

  • spoon_man on 07 Jul, 2002, 07:20…
Hehe. No chance It's like trying to hiccup. I'm still trying to lucid dream and it's almost impossible. When I do it's only a matter of seconds before I wake up or my sub consious tricks me into thinking it's real.
  • Marek on 07 Jul, 2002, 07:47…
Hehe I'm not trying to force it. I just hope I'll have that dream someday.
  • spoon_man on 07 Jul, 2002, 08:23…
I once had a dream that I was at this awesome party. It had great music, lots of alchohol and really great people like Jane and Daria out of the TV series "Daria". You can't imagine how pissed off I was when I woke up half way through. I kept trying to force myself to dream it again months after.
  • csenosiain on 07 Jul, 2002, 06:18…
right after finishing full throttle and then playing a bit of Grim Fandango and i dreamt that i was on a motorcycle helping Manny and i was being chased by the skeleton version of ripburger (scary)

  • spoon_man on 07 Jul, 2002, 06:12…
I once dreamt that I bought an updated version of Sam and Max. Some of it was in 3D and some of it was in 2D. You could also use the jedi mind trick in it.
  • Trapezoid on 07 Jul, 2002, 09:03…
Wow! I also had a dream like that... I dreamed I was playing a new Sam & Max game, and it was a sort of 3D sidescroller, like Crash Bandicoot. No Jedi mind tricks though.

I regularly dream about running into that perfect store that has all the old lucasfilm/arts games i was looking for. It's so frustrating when you wake up.

Also I dreamed of being Indiana Jones in a Indy Infernal surrounding and whipping/swinging from one block that floated on water to another. Eventually that dream evolved further into something Deus Ex related..

Oh and just as a tidbit, at the night of 4th of July i dreamed of being in a car and we drove home at night from a party or something and in the distance we saw all these missiles launching and hitting ground and it felt like the end of the world.
  • twifkak on 08 Jul, 2002, 06:22…

The following might seem stange but it's true, really!
When I first played Monkey Island 2 I was stuck on part II, then my sister had a dream about the exact way to solve that puzzle in the game I was losing my head for.
  • spoon_man on 07 Jul, 2002, 06:09…
That's not so odd. I dream the future sometimes. Most of the time it doesn't help it's like looking through a hey hole I can only pick up certain pieces of information that don't make sense in the dream. When they happen I realise.

Maybe those dreams are a perfect prediction of the future but I can't understand them in my waking life.

I had this one once during the period of history in which I was playing Day of the Tentacle for the first time. I was by the outhouses with George Washington, and he was trying to cut the tree down, but ben Franklins kite kept getting in the way. It was fantastic, now I remember it!

  • spoon_man on 07 Jul, 2002, 06:16…
Me too. I can only vaguely remember it. In the end I got so frustrated I made Guybrush kill himself by jumping out of the lighthouse.
  • csenosiain on 07 Jul, 2002, 06:20…
I remember something similar just that with MI4 (in monkey combat)
  • Ben_Whatsisname on 06 Jul, 2002, 22:29…
As a big Nightmare On Elm Street fan, many of my dreams are like scenes out of that movie - 3rd person, just watching the action. Well, one night, after watching NOES 1-3, playing a full game of Maniac Mansion, then watching NOES 4-7 (busy pre-marriage/pre-baby day) I went to sleep at watched A Nightmare on Maniac Mansion. It was pretty cool, my brain detailed that archetectually impossible house nicely, and all the characters looked like perfect real-life counterparts to their video game images...except Bernard. He looked like Jack Nicholson from "The Shining", only with glasses. He was the one who finally defeated Freddy, btw, by throwing him into the microwave when Freddy morphed into a mouse to scare Sandy.
  • Remi O on 06 Jul, 2002, 22:21…
Oh god, this is sad, but I had a dream of a MI3 just after I finished MI2. I remember the graphics were similar, and Guybrush walking over to some booth, and... What? What? What?
  • MonkeyMug on 06 Jul, 2002, 22:02…
I've had ALOT of scary LEC dreams (scary cuz I'm normally killed in them) here?s one of the coolest ones...

I was walking along outside my house and LeChuck pops up, and I poke him in the eye and say ?Ha ha, I poked ya in the eye? What are ya gonna do about it Mr. Ghost zombie demon type guy?? and then I realize that my hands on fire. So I?m like ?AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Damn you LeChuck and your evil fire of fireness!!!? and run around like an idiot fanning the flames. So in a few sec. I?m totally on fire. Then LeChuck pulls out his cutlass well kills me? I won?t share the gorey details, too gorey?

But here?s the scary part?. I wake up and my cat LeChuckie is siting by my legs giving me this evil look. And it?s all dark so his eyes were all green and shinny? And he just sits there? Starring at me? Evil look? Starring? With the evil look? *shivers* I don?t trust that cat?
  • csenosiain on 07 Jul, 2002, 06:16…
thats nothing i once dreamed something similar (except i cut his beard and the same thing happened) and I woke up and my Dog LeChuck was Growling(!!) at me
  • QueZTone on 07 Jul, 2002, 05:52…
heh, i like your imagination on this one, the cat bit made it pretty creepy =]
  • MonkeyMug on 07 Jul, 2002, 12:15…
It's not only that, Chuckie watches me when I'm playing LEC games (and only when I'm playing them, no other games... and he's always there) and it's really creepy when your playing the last part of MI2...

Oh and I had another LEC dream last night! (Some how I think this poll triggered it) I was playing Jedi Starfighter with my best friend and she flew right into the ocean in that level where you?re protecting the spaceport? Then my PS2 blew up! I was so pissed at her, because I told her if she flew in the water the PS2 would blow up?
  • csenosiain on 09 Jul, 2002, 08:09…
