Fail.

Update: Someone in Argentina has figured it out. According to Ignatius on the Telltale forums, a humor TV show figured out what happened and cut together the original broadcast with clips from Monkey 1. Plus, they found footage of a nutritionist claiming "SCUMM" is an alcohol delivery service. You learn something every day!

Update: What the?

I did a quick interview with the guy who created the forum. Would you like to post it?
  • valkian on 01 Sep, 2009, 22:24…
    *group, not forum, Facebook group.

Why the hell haven't LucasArts put one of those pop-over ads across the bottom of those youtube clips pimping the SoMI:SE?
  • clone2727 on 31 Aug, 2009, 05:15…
Lol! Seems we killed the bandwidth on that SCUMM delivery service website :P

Is this the Argentine version of Fox News?
  • BillieJoe86 on 31 Aug, 2009, 04:14…
Haha, besides this little grog issue I like it better than Fox News, but yeah, your observation is pretty accurate
  • Huz on 30 Aug, 2009, 23:45…
    Ja ja ja, indeed!
  • clone2727 on 30 Aug, 2009, 21:28…
I'm guessing the delivery service idea came from here.
  • BillieJoe86 on 30 Aug, 2009, 22:05…
Yeah. You see, in Buenos Aires there's a law that says you can't sell alcoholic beverages in the streets after 11PM, so these drink delivery services -like SCUMM- came up. The alcohol issue has been around for a while here...
As you can see, Monkey Island kind of a big deal in young culture, so how comes these guys at C5N couldn't figure that out? I believe somebody inside the channel set up that poor anchor.
  • clone2727 on 31 Aug, 2009, 04:43…
I tried to follow their steps in finding where they found that idea. I typed SCUMM in Argentinian Google and this wasn't even the top post...

This truly is an epic fail...

The 2nd youtube clip claims the Grog, sorry "Grog XD", recipe was emailed to the news station.
  • clone2727 on 31 Aug, 2009, 15:08…
Yeah, but the medical guy looked up SCUMM online to find the alcohol delivery service.
  • valkian on 31 Aug, 2009, 17:08…
The "medical guy" (Dr. Cormillot) is actually a pretty famous doctor over here, which adds to the hilarity of it all.

Further developments in the case of this weird internet proto-meme here. (I'd have edited the newspost and embedded this, but frankly that post is perfect already. Thanks to Ignatius on the Telltale Forums for this one.)
  • BillieJoe86 on 30 Aug, 2009, 21:24…
Hey, I'm glad that Ignatius posted it, but didn't you guys receive my email? I sent it to you right after I posted the subtitled version you guys embedded. Apparently the word on the video spread fast haha.
  • jp-30 on 30 Aug, 2009, 07:45…
Oh well, someone edited and embedded it.
  • elTee on 30 Aug, 2009, 05:10…
This is hilarious! You're getting an award at Gabez's end of year shindig for this one.
  • GhostPirateLeChuck on 30 Aug, 2009, 05:05…
They left out the pepperoni! I know it's optional but it's a great option!
  • Jeff on 29 Aug, 2009, 23:44…
Telltale plz to be including a Grog XD reference in ToMI. :D

Oh man, this is just too good
  • jp-30 on 31 Aug, 2009, 08:38…
    Seconded.
  • Thrik on 29 Aug, 2009, 23:37…
Hahaha at taking the xD smiley as part of the name.
  • valkian on 29 Aug, 2009, 23:11…
As an Argentine myself I can't believe how I missed this on TV, and more importantly, why I was being such an idiot an not getting any Grog so far.

I'm so proud of our journalists.
  • Kroms on 29 Aug, 2009, 22:16…
What do YOU mean it isn't real? What kind of drink doesn't have batteries, jp?
  • jp-30 on 29 Aug, 2009, 22:21…
Battery acid is fine in a drink, so long as it also includes axle grease to help it slide down the throat.
