Gladius Featured in Banner Ad UGO Article 22 Aug, 2002, 16:57 / 1 comments

As seen in this that we're apparently running, UGO has run an article titled "Top Eleven Upcoming Strategy Games." LucasArts' Gladius made the list #7 (along with an uninformed jab at LucasArts for being an all-Star Wars company). Here's a clip:
Metal glints in the sun, shields spark when they clash, and the fire from spell effects (this isn't entirely historically accurate, folks) look particularly nice. There are many different arenas to fight in, each placed in one of four regions. While Gladius is set in a fictional world, regions have their own theme, from Middle Eastern to the more familiar ancient Roman, complete with columns and tunics in the crowd. Multiplayer modes will allow two or more people at once to battle at once, and by simply saving your gladiator team to a memory card, you can challenge your friends.
They say one of the low points in their experience is the potential for (and occasional occurance of) slow gameplay during the combat sequences. Slow gameplay in a turn based RPG game doesn't sound too out of place, but who knows? Anyway, take a peek.
