Final E3 Title 16 May, 2001, 22:32 / 61 comments

I fear that I'll never be able to show my face in polite soceity for announcing this to everyone. So this could be my final ever news item as the egging shall probably promptly start around about now...

Without further ado, I can announce that the final E3 title to be revealed tomorrow will be for Star Wars - Jedi Outcast. This game will effectively be Jedi Knight III built using a modified version of the Quake III arena. As of yet the timescale for the game is unsure. So it could be Prequel, Original or something completely different like the Sith Wars or after Star Wars. Who knows?

Sorry... I'm just doing my job...

Update: LucasArts has posted the product spotlight for Jedi Outcast here on their E3 page.

Well, i'm very dissapointed with LEC. I was hoping all the time until 17.5.2001 that they will announce a good adventure, but i was wrong :-((( Hope LucasArts will not change to StarWarsArts, although i'm looking forward to play Jedi Knight II.
  • wreckDesigner on 18 May, 2001, 13:42…
    Why not StarwArts instead? =)

E3 is pretty good so far. Although most of the games are Star Wars, some titles are looking pretty good - Jedi Knight 2, Obi Wan and Star Wars Galaxies. Anyway, we're all fine. Today we met Simon Jeffrey and Bill Tiller, both of whom are really neat. LUCAS ARTS GAVE US BEER (Monkey Island Microgroggery beer) Mwahahahaha. Love from all at E3 - Emma, Pete, Andrew, Sarah, Jake, Spaff.
  • Remi O on 18 May, 2001, 15:02…
So LEC is giving away beer to underage kids? It's Simon I tell you, he and his damn 50/50 promises.
  • Swordmaster on 18 May, 2001, 09:50…
    We all hate you, too!

  • QueZTone on 17 May, 2001, 21:05…
hmm did anyone notice it is actually JediKnight 2 and not 3? Just thought I had to point it out just now...--------okies well if I look at this game seperately, from all the other SW titles from E3, it is actually something ive been looking forward too (i always wanted either Outlaws2 or JediKnight2) so heck the news its been made with the Q3 Engine is great also! It has some marvellous potential I can tell you that! -------- About LEC's 50/50 well they can't blame us for getting mad cause we are getting quite confused and if they were fan-loving and were speaking of the truth I'd say they should've contacted us in some way and explain the matter. Also in the past LEC gained great credit in my list of favourite software houses, however the last years they've been slacking and the credit is of now back to ZERO. I am looking all over now, the past LEC is still at 100% favourite but the allover LEC means ZERO to me. So they'd better get a real good explanation for this. Because with Ep2 coming up we can only expect MORE SW GAMES! aww gawd..
  • QueZTone on 18 May, 2001, 13:40…
lol, just saw the announced release date: spring 2002. Ooookay, by then Quake V is prolly released anyway. (i had Quake IV on my grafical calculator i tell you!). So that proves once more that LEC always uses old engines LOL, they never come with state of the art 3d graphics. Just like JK2 (loved it tho) and Outlaws (my fav. shooter tho). LOL @ LEC
  • Remi O on 17 May, 2001, 21:16…
I don't know why everybody keeps going on and on about that 50/50 thing. Jeffery said it'd take some time before that would happen, and these games must have been in production for well over a year. Plus, most of them aren't even being developed by LEC.
  • Narrative on 17 May, 2001, 21:25…
REMI is a 100% rite here. its not an overnite thing. And as the article on adventurergamer says... game can take from 2-4 years to develop, Simons promise was only under a year ago or something rite? That means the 50/50 situation my take anything for a year to three to develop fully, rite? Now i'm as gutted as you lot are about the lack of an original adventure game, but don't lose the faith. LEC and Simon have broken no promises and dont owe us anything. They'll only be doing that if we see e3 2003 without any adventure titles... in which case i will be all with you and i'll assist you to lead the revoult and bring down LEC! "You can take our games, but you can never take... our freedom!!!!!!!" Sorry, got a bit Braveheart stylee carried out there. But u get what i mean anyway.... Matt
  • QueZTone on 18 May, 2001, 13:36…
d0h read me comments again then re-post ure msg or something. I said they cant blame us for being mad cause we get confused this way! its way nature acts apperantly; we're addicted to adventures, we dont get any; we get mad and start to smack. LEC shouldve contacted us addicts by now. I'm looking forward to the interview with Simon J. hehe =]
  • Sumez on 17 May, 2001, 19:30…
Wth, blaze, you were wrong about so many things there! 1. LEC is releasing Rogue Leader which they develop with Factor 5, so it's not the only LEC game not being developed just by them. Also LEC made AWESOME 3D games for PC. Dark Forces, Rogue Squadron, Jedi Knight, Racer, etc. shoo j00. Btw, the official title is Jedi Outcast: Jedi Knight II, so it's II, not III. • Narrative on 17 May, 2001, 20:26…
Yes Sumez, you made that point already. No need to be pedantic.
  • Sumez on 17 May, 2001, 21:41…
No, I just found out about that when I posted that comment. Before I just stated my own thought, now I actually saw the official title.
  • Supermatch on 17 May, 2001, 19:20…
Clearly there have been too many Star Wars, but it will be over soon. Every person, place, thing, and concept will have been blown up by flying space racers, so....buck up!
  • maclaine on 17 May, 2001, 17:34…
Everything now is perfectly clear. LucasArts died in 1998, but we only noticed it today. When Sierra On-Line released Gabriel Knight 3, I knew that I was never going to play a good-old-Sierra-game again. Now I'm discovering the exactly same thing holds true to LucasArts and Grim Fandango. All good things...
  • LGH on 18 May, 2001, 12:28…
Hey, what a about Monkey4? That was a good adventure after all! Besides, I'm pretty sure LucasArts will ever release another adventure sooner or later... and I'm already curious to read that Mojo interview on Sunday!
  • Stauff on 17 May, 2001, 17:17…
Bloody LEC! I am StarWars fan but I do not need this silly console games, I do not need StarWars games in such a huge and rotten pile... I want a good adventure.. Of course I will buy this JK2 because I still remember nights with JK1 and Dark Forces but LEC on E3 simply sucks. Taste COLD STEEL feeble LEC marketing guys!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!!!!
  • blaze on 17 May, 2001, 15:48…
This game was the only title saving LEC imho. Why? A. It's not being developed by LEC (they have proved over and over again that they cannot make 3d games for the PC). B. It's beeing developed by RAVEN who made StarTrek eliteforce (totally best shooter last year) C. It's Old School star wars! Even though most people would like to see non star wars products. Old school starwars is almost as good! Just some questions go around inside my mind... If they ar doing a Yavin IV level why didn't they choose the Unreal engine (or something equally good at outdoor stuff). Why weren't there any more adventure games for the PC on the release list *sob*
  • deadworm222 on 17 May, 2001, 15:11…
    Well darn.
  • Rummy on 17 May, 2001, 15:06…
Ok man, LEC just went down the drain, why do they even bother announcing these games? I wonder if they know how bad their starwars titles are! they might as well just start packing up their bags, its all downhill from here.
  • wreckDesigner on 17 May, 2001, 14:54…
Well, what can I say? I mean sure I'm disappointed but hardly surprised. And I'm not giving up on LEC, though, unlike some of you impatient whiners.
  • Trinity on 17 May, 2001, 21:08…
Hey, you spelled disappointed right! And I agree, let's wait and see if they give us more adventure games later.
  • wreckDesigner on 17 May, 2001, 21:26…
Yeah I did. And I'm not a native english speaker. Impressive, huh?

    Indeed.
  • Metallus on 17 May, 2001, 21:29…
Heh, once again, the Mojo HTML is thwarted.
  • Sumez on 17 May, 2001, 12:04…
Sweet! So many cool E3 titles this year! Obi-Wan, Rogue Leader, Racer 2, and now this. The only think I can see there is to whine about is the lack of PC titles, but I assume LEC will be making PC ports at some point. Btw, Narrative, there's no Jedi Knight 2, unless you consider Obi-Wan JK2 (which it was said to be like when it was first announced in 99) MotS is an expansion, it's a stand-alone game, but it's still generally an expansion of JK2... maybe he meant to write Dark Forces 3?
  • Narrative on 17 May, 2001, 16:33…
    yeah woteva
  • GregD on 17 May, 2001, 11:52…
AGAIN another f'in suprise.... LEC may as well just give up now.
  • Narrative on 17 May, 2001, 10:58…
My paranoid fiends... face the truth... Denying it to us is denying it to yourselve... Its genuine. You'll see tonight.

"James sends us this big news straight from the E3 convention floor! BIG NEWS! LucasArts has announced "Star Wars, Jedi Outcast, Jedi Knight II". It's being developed with Raven Software on a modified Quake III engine. It's expected to be released next Spring." ... I'm not buying it I need REAL proof.
  • Huz on 17 May, 2001, 16:13…
Is this good enough for you? :)
  • Remi O on 17 May, 2001, 16:21…
That menu... I haven't seen so many Star Wars related things in a row since I saw the line for Phantom Menace tickets. Scary.
  • Huz on 17 May, 2001, 16:37…
See, now you know what the webmaster spends all his time doing - looking for unique Star Wars images for the site graphics! He must be running out of places to look by now.
  • Chunkey Monkey on 17 May, 2001, 08:02…
Your just pulling our leg this is just BS. Where did you get this info? Huh!?
  • deadworm222 on 17 May, 2001, 10:35…
    Jedi Outcast ?....
  • deadworm222 on 17 May, 2001, 10:37…
QUAKE 3 ARENA !!! LEC WOULD NEVER USE IT !! They use their own engine. It's an adventure game.... i hope.

  • Glottis on 17 May, 2001, 00:46…
If this was only the second Star Wars tiltle announced and not the sixth, i'd be happy. Jedi Knight was a quality game and i enjoyed it. But with no orginal title in site that makes me pissed off. I do believe that in soon in the future an orginal title will be announced but im impatient and i want it now.
  • Rogue5 on 16 May, 2001, 23:21…
Id have to say Im looking forward to JK3 more than any of the other titles. Too bad theyll probably destroy the JK series just the same as Monkey....
  • Guybrush Threepwood on 17 May, 2001, 14:35…
Nobody destroyed Monkey Island... But now Simon Jeffery is destroying LEC! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!
  • Trapezoid on 17 May, 2001, 20:52…
As someone pointed out before, these games have probably been in production since before Simon was president... so there.
  • Zaarin on 16 May, 2001, 22:51…
I mean don't get me wrong, I like Star Wars and all, but like all of you would've liked to see at least one game not based on it. Even if it was a really pre-preview stage - just to let us know that it is happening.

Another Star Wars title... Oh the joy... The joy... Actually, JK was good, so that's ok... I guess... How about an original title now?
