Deathspank death footage: gameplay teaser teases. Update: You are old and a man, but mostly old 08 Sep, 2009, 12:45 / 22 comments

Ron Gilbert's Deathspank gameplay footage!

Looks pretty interesting, huh? Very unique. Kudos to Ron for sticking with it - seems like it's paid off.

Special thanks to AlfredJ for the tip-off.

Update: A quick summary of Ron's PAX keynote here.

Update 2: Gamespot filmed some of the PAX demo, in which Ron shows some of the Diablo aspects, and then some of the Monkey aspects. There's voice acting, which is a first in a Ron Gilbert game in a non-kids Ron Gilbert game.

I wonder who's writing it. Jerry Holkins, is that you?

Update by Jason: Also, the Sept. 6 episode of the Idle Thumbs podcast was a PAX special featuring Ron as a guest.

Update 3...4?: The game has local co-op. Giantbomb's questions put Gamespot's to shame.

On Giantbomb's video, the soundtrack resembles Peter Mcconnell's Psychonauts soundtrack....

The old man dialog was fun.

Yeah, I saw the game running live at PAX. In all its cylinder world shaped glory.

It looks cool, just like every one keeps saying, if Diablo and Monkey Island had a baby, it would be named Death Spank. Complex dialog trees, full voice acting, an appearently open world to explore and kill chickens in.

In a nutshell, I was more impressed with it than I thought I would be. But then again, its a Ron Gilbert game, so, I should have expected to be impressed. I'm sorry Ron. It looks awesome.

It also doesnt have any load times, screen just fades out, then fades back into the scene you ran to. Loads a tiny bit I think, but you hardly notice.

Cool, Deathspank has a Beatles Soundtrack :P
Or Ron's stand must have been too close to the Harmonix/MTV guys....

Just watched Gamespot's Hands-On demo with the Ronster and have fallen in love with this game. Need it now but am willing to wait :o)

Was surprised to note that this is coming out on "next gen" consoles as well as PC. Is this a definite? The button icons in the demo were definitely Xbox 360 stylee...

I believe the official line from Hothead is "No platforms have been announced", but you can pretty much take is as read that it'll be out on all the consoles.

All right, this is the last time this week I'll be tipping you guys off. But this post just appeared on Lucasart's potentially awesome new blog called the Lucas Workshop. It's a picture of some guys at PAX, but there's this girl with a puzzle piece in the picture (Lucidity?). I found out that if you change the url of the picture from http://(...)/1.jpg to 2.jpg and so on, you can get four different pictures and four different puzzle pieces. When you put the puzzle pieces together, you get what I assume to be a screenshot of Lucidity. Looks pretty interesting. Looks totally unlike anything Lucas has done for the past few years.

    Check it out: http://lucasartsworkshop.wordpress.com/2009/09/05/scenes-from-pax/

There's other stuff on the blog too, like a bit about Loom.

Reminds me of Paper Mario, in a good way.
The music reminds me of Terry S. Taylor too!
Looks better than I expected, I'm actually getting kind of excited now.

Also, tipping you off even more, check out the new Deathspank website: http://www.deathspank.com

And the last part of that 1up-thingy is released, consisting of the trailer and a video interview with Gilbert.

Awesome trailer, very much liked what I saw, from the 2D cutscene, to the gameplay, and to the unique art and world.

Hope it gets released pretty soon!
