News has broken today that Sony Online and LucasArts are to launch a browser based MMO based on The Clone Wars, which is free to play, but additional content can be accessed if a subscription is purchased.

G4TV reports:

The game is being developed by Sony Online Entertainment (Free Realms), and will provide younger gamers with “exciting mini-games, dynamic activities, lively social events and thousands of customization options," all set within the universe created for the Clone Wars animated television series...

The game will be free to play, but will include the option to purchase a monthly subscription to access more content. There will also be numerous items to purchased via micro-transactions as well. In addition to mini-games such as droid programming and speeder bike racing, players will also be able to customize lightsabers and take on friends in the game's unique card-battle game.

I guess kids who have outgrown Club Penguin need somewhere to play with their school friends online.

Sorry, I kinda went a bit too far. And it's true, LucasArts is not developing it. The problem is that I'm getting too impatient with LucasArts finally announcing some great game that will make us happy. I'm not really pleased with what I've seen and heard, from MI2:SE. But I'll be patient!

BillieJoe86, It's being developed externally by SEO, I doubt its production is in any way hampering other projects at LucasArts.

For what it is (a step up from Club Penguin level MMOs) I think it looks great. After showing them the trailer, my 5 & 7 year old sons can't wait to play it (and I'll happily play alongside them and help them out).

The game doesn't look bad, but... REALLY???? LucasArts is making few games, and they don't even bother in making something memorable. They have kept us waiting for years, and they keep bringing on the worst crap in the world. And sorry, but the Special Editions don't look that good to me. I was happy with SMI and Lucidity as starting points for LucasArts, but they don't seem to have started anything good at all.

Hey, this looks better than that Old Republic time-waster!
