Everyone's favorite mysterious column writer is back in his new article, Just Because You Can't Play, Doesn't Make It Bad - Why Console Only Ain?t Worth Complaining About. In this article, el capit?n takes his right hand and promptly slaps in the face those who complain about LEC possibly releasing games exclusively for the console. (Hey even I'm guilty of this one.) ;) Here's a clip:
That's a quote following the now-defunct rumors about Full Throttle II being made only for consoles, with no PC version in the planning. You know something? That's not bad news. It's an interesting read so make sure to head over to The SCUMM Bar and read it.
And as for those of you that demand that console games be ported to PC, f**k you. Gaming is a privilege, not a right. Go bitch about something that's actually important.

So they're releasing a few console-only games. There are some people who wish there were PC versions planned of these games. They don't want to have to buy a console system when there's only really one game on it that they're interested in. There haven't really been that many people who have gotten very angry over this.
Since Captain Mystery's article is probably longer than all the anti-console outcries he's complaing about combined, it seems an awful lot like he's running out of subjects. What controversial opinion is he going to pull out of his ass next? I think we'll soon be seeing a Captain Mystery article complaining about Mojo's purple color scheme.
ok, just kidding.
First you say, "If you don't like consoles, fine, but there's no reason to slagging people who don't agree with you.".
Which is a well thought out statment which I completely agree with.
Then you go and blow your credability by "slagging off" on people who use a Mac.
Way to go Remi O! Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Hypocrite!
Then again, I suppose if the only newer games you enjoy are first person shooters, strategy games, MMORPGs or RPGs that are way too goddamn long, then PCs are wonderful. I, on the other hand, enjoy games that only a console can truly offer, such as Smash Bros, Resident Evil (yes, it was on PC too, but they weren't that great of ports), any Capcom game that involves fighting or shooting, any high-profile Konami title, just about every Sega title ever made whether it be Virtua Fighter, Shenmue, whatever, almost any game by Square, etc. My list could go on for days.
Yes, I realize through the wonders of emulation, I can play many Capcom titles that involve fighting or shooting. I also realize that I can't just take it over to a friend's house and play. Also, modern console ports of those titles now are packed with new characters, features, modes, etc. Back in the day, PCs were wonderful, as they had the best graphics, best games, etc. In today's world, PCs are still wonderful, but they no longer have any real advantages gaming-wise over consoles besides the internet, and even that's not going to last much longer. The wonderful Dreamcast had a 56k with it that was used for both browsing and online gaming (eventually), the XBOX has the built in broadband that you can already use to play games online, albeit not on the scale it will be in a few months, the PS2 can be used for games already if you have a USB modem, and soon they'll have full-blown internet support ready.
I used to be able to pick up any PC game off the shelf, install it, and not have to worry about my hardware one bit, because I had a VGA card, a Sound Blaster, etc. These days, in order to play most PC games the day they hit the shelf, you seem to have to have the latest pentium chip, the best 3d card and another 256mb of ram.. and that's about every 8-12 months, a lot shorter timespan than the usually 3-4 year lifespan of consoles.
Hey! You forgot the most important thing: Improved graphics! GTA3 for the console only offers 16 bit textures, the PC version has 32 bit textures!
(Oh, and they improved the controls too, there's nothing like aiming with the mouse!)
The mouse aim could be a nice addition though.
Consoles are made for gaming. Period. That's why I own a PC for my apps, internet, and in a very rare case, gaming.
Consoles will always be for gaming and wonderful for it. Period. Just buy a goddamn console. No one says you can't have a PC too.
