It has just been brought to my attention that during the last month, the makers of a Grim Fandango fan sequel called Indigo Island were reportedly sent a cease and desist letter from LucasArts. Not much is known at this point, but more information on this will be released in the near future.

I doubt LEC is making Grim 2. While I am excited about the 'original titles' prospect, I'm not sure any of them will an adventure in the classical sense. Look it at from LEC's perspective; The unfortunate truth is that adventures are big liabilities with little mainstream appeal while LEC as a company keeps getting bigger and has to cater to the mainstream more and more to stay on top. I agree with QueZTone, I think we can be sure of another Indy 3D semi-adventure (not necessarily a bad thing, could be great if done well) because it's name-franchise and has broad appeal, while kind of catering to the fans of adventures as well. Less sure but possible is an action-adventure Full Throttle-sequel, also because it would combine mainstream appeal (action, bikers are cool) with something fans would like. And with the onslaught of SW titles this year it's not entirely impossible they gave the go-ahead to one pure adventure game. I haves hopes for LEC brewing up something really good, probably some completely original and exciting project that we don't know anything about... It's been three years since LEC released a brilliant original (Grim), time for LEC to show us again why we like them so much in the first place.

Indy also will get a larger interest as development continues on the indy 4 movie. Hopefully having Lucasarts' current focus on adventures (rather than starwars), we should have these new adventures up to GF standards... or perhaps they just bought the rights to distibute zork 34.

Well, this thing reminds when lucasarts was developing MI4. They were stopping any other fan game about the monkey island myth, remember? So, there is some clues that pions us to that direction. Personally i would like a GF2, lucasarts have created many sequels and with the same quality from the original. Of course there cannot be sequels to games like The dig which is over, the story there is not much to say, but Grim, have lots to say, it has a whole world with locations we never saw....

The Curse of Monkey Island and Escape from Monkey Island where not the same quality as The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2 : Lechuck's Revenge. Just shows you can't guess how good a sequel will be until you actually play it. I think LEC should stick to original titles.

Well, you know, sequel = $$$. I didn't think CMI sucked though. EMI however...

Well how about another story in the underworld. There are alot of stories that could be told with the environment of GF. No need to bring the cast back, or even name it Grim Fandango 2.

The beta screenshots made them jealous ;)

I bet this means there is a Grim sequel in the works at LEC. Lets pray.....

Leave well enough alone. Grim is practically a perfect game IMO. Adding a sequel would probably do nothing but diminish the quality of the original. How about a new original game?! Without new original games you wouldn't even have Grim 1, you'd have Loom 2 or something.

That is a good point. I do hope though that they dont attempt a serious game (Dig for exmaple).

The Dig is awesome! I just got the novel by Dean Foster in the mail too. Now i have the game, novel and illegal soundtrack! muhahaha!

Bah, LEC will never make GF2, and this isn't evidence at all. They're more concerned with Star Wars, as thats a huge licsense and they know it will sell. From a business perspective, its probably a better idea to please the SW community, since they're about ten times bigger than the Adventure community. I'm sure they will live up to their promises and release new adventure games, but I think Star Wars will always hold the most games.

*whine* but, but *pout* IT'S NOT FAIR! Lucasarts used to only make adventure games....they can't let us down like this.

have a little faith in LEC people. I know i lost mine too for a while but regained it somehow hehe. I have strong feelings of a new Indy game coming up since that small note in the recent chat. Also I think next e3 is going to be quite nice with 50/50 for ep2 games and original titles. Not saying that the other 50% will be adventure game titles cause i have a strong feeling they wish to give out action too. Much like Infernal or perhaps another platform game. Cheerio =]
