All Lucas subsidiaries Collaborating on Star Wars 1313 06 Dec, 2012 / 3 comments

Edge Online has an article on Star Wars 1313 that talks about the technology, and some of the gameplay, of Star Wars: 1313. The most interesting part of the article is that every Lucas subsidiary seems to be involved in this project:

"And it’s here that a significant collaboration is happening, with visual effects house Industrial Light & Magic, Skywalker Sound, Lucas Animation and LucasArts all working together for the first time – now under Disney’s banner."

It seems LucasArts is really shooting for the stars with this one. It will certainly be interesting to see if it lives up to expectations (and if LucasArts allows it enough development time to do so).

Seems to me that this is something LEC has been boasting about forever now. Was it Force Unleashed that they were talking about how we're supposed to be all impressed because the team would be sharing resources with ILM or something?

I can't chalk this synergy up to the Disney deal--ostensibly, it was in the works beforehand--but I'll credit the fact that it won't somehow vanish off of the 2013 release slate without any explanation as being solely creditable to the Mouse House's influence.

Actually nice to know that a game with what appears to be some craft won't become the latest casualty of the LA limbo phenomenon.

Well, it's not really the first time they have done that. I think it was Bounty Hunter, which also had collaborations from Skywalker Sound and ILM. You can even go as far back as The Dig, which had a couple cutscenes made by ILM.
If anything -and as pointed out by Paul Meegan in some interview - this one is a truly comprehensive collaboration, and maybe that's a first.
Also, the article is interesting, but this is hardly news, the fact that all subsidiaries are coming together for 1313, has been announced in the press release and mentioned everywhere ever since. I think even one of the development videos shows a couple of the ILM guys talking about their involvement.
